What is up with them putting the Tech scores up in the left hand corner of our screens, while they are skating!! Its covering up the skaters as they're moving, not to mention incredibly distracting. And in the upper right, is the stupid NBC icon, I mean come on! Making me crazy. Is it bothering you?

I watched for about 3 minutes last night - Tara and Johnny talking over the music annoyed me instantly and I turned it off. Nope - not gonna do it. The Olympics is my guilty pleasure every 4 years and I will be SO bummed if I get angry at it every night. The scores would have annoyed me, too, if I had not already been annoyed.

You'd think they'd have a non-commentary version for people who actually want to enjoy watching the skating as it was designed: a carefully choreographed display set to music, rather than listening to strangers' observations.

I like seeing the scoring as it goes along. NBC has been doing this for several years during the Grand Prix events, Nationals and Worlds. I am a former skater and am fascinated seeing the scoring as it happens. I often have my Ipad open to the ISU page to follow the overall scoring too (deductions and breakdown of all the scores). Tara and Johnny have gotten better over time, but I can live without them too (but I can also identify all the jumps and spins unlike the casual viewer). I have been known to watch things like Nationals or Grand Prix events on Peacock and during those live events, there is often zero commentary. Not sure if that will happen with the Olympics.

And add to that , we had school closings and delays taking up the bottom of the screen..it was ALL very annoying!

I haven't watched yet this year but I stopped watching last Olympics because Tara and Jonny annoyed me. I wish Scott Hamilton was still doing it. I like the commentary so I know what is going on but Tara and Jonny are over the top and distract from the skating.

I haven’t watched yet, but practically everything NBC does while covering the Olympics bothers me.

Can I get the coverage from Canada or UK?
I used to live in Michigan, about an hour drive to the border, and we used to be able to pick up CBC- which was fantastic, because then we had two channels to watch from. And usually a lot better coverage on hockey!

While I'm happy to ditch the dang Peacock logo and the chyrons running underneath, those of us who are seriously involved in skating watch those GOE's for all we're worth; it's really important to us to be able to see that running total, though there is really no reason to keep the leader's total score up at the same time and make the block larger.

On my TV, at least, they're placed high enough that they never cover the figures of the skaters.
We stream on Peacock first in real-time, then re-watch with the commentary later on NBC so as to hear what Johnny and Tara think, and to see if it matches up with our own opinions.

That is what is known in the Television industry as "content rich graphics".
I haven't watched the Olympics since 1984 so can't comment on the coverage.

I prefer to wait until the routine is finished before seeing the scores.

The thing is, the total score doesn't let you know what they scored on each element, while the running total does; you can see the base value and see what it was scored, so that tells you if the judges thought it was well-done or not. If you're a skater, that's the really interesting part.

Basically, for the layman, if the block stays green they are doing OK, if it's yellow they are on the edge (because there is something hinky in what happened that requires closer scrutiny), and if it goes red there was a mistake.

I completely agree as someone who skated competitively growing up. I want to see how the scores are going and how each element is being scored. I find it fascinating!

We get the Canadian channel right below the NBC channel, and we watch it alot too. And yes, the tech scores is aggravating.
The loud music, the announcers constantly talking, are an irritation too. Just turn the music down and let us watch without constant narration. I like to hear what Tara and Jonnie say, but do it at the end, not during the show.

DD has done a little bit of technical panel judging (as a trainee), so I'm sure she would love seeing the technical scores as they roll out. I'm not sure how my feeble brain processes the GOE's, but I like seeing it anyway.

I would much prefer just watching with the music and zero chatter. I don't really care whether Johnny thinks a jump was a Flip, Lutz or Flutz and I can spot most elements myself.

I'm not up on the latest scoring stuff on some of the choreography, but to me, watching the flow and general execution to the music is much more important than chatter from athletes who last competed 10-25 years ago.

Hooray for all the skaters in this group! I’m also a former skater/current coach and I love being able to keep an eye on the score.

Team USA really brought it last night…hopefully the ladies can keep that going.

Anyone else in love with Hubbell/Donohue? I’m so sad this is their last season.

I don't mind it too much. I think feedback over the years was why they did this because it helps people at home have some sort of an idea how the routine translates into scores.

Maybe the issue is that it's constant commentary (and I agree a tad annoying at times) combined with the display. I wouldn't mind them commenting every now and then if it's an amazing move or if unfortunately they fell or something because that can often tell me how difficult was that move they just pulled off or how affecting the score that fall becomes but they do comment quite a lot throughout.
