I can top this I think!!!

On Thanksgiving, my DMIL announced that she would no longer be hosting Christmas Eve dinner at her house as she has done for the past 15+ years (the guests include our family of 3 and my SIL's family of 4). She said that instead they will be having dinner at our house 1 night (we choose the date) and my SIL on another (they choose the date). :rolleyes1

Well, we hosted last night and it went super, but weird with only half the family. She claimed that it's just too much work to have everyone over at once. I agree it is work, but it is only once a year and we all bring a dish and clean the kitchen afterwards.

Anyway, they brought a beef tenderloin which my DH grilled and 2x baked potatoes. We served sausage cheese balls for appetizers, along with champagne and had salad, asparagus and rolls as sides. We had red velvet cupkes for dessert with coffee and Bailey's, too. :santa:

We had a great time...maybe too great because my MIL said it was so much easier this way and we definitely will do it the same way next year. My SIL's gets her turn tonight. Is it just me, or is it weird to up and change a tradition and split the family up into 2 nights...especially when the kids are ages 12, 8 and 3?

Breakfast is a coffee cake w/candles and singing, also a baked quiche.

Dinner is Chicken Pie, mashed potatoes, veggies, cranberry mold, cookies and pie. Appetizers: fresh shrimp coctails with lots of horseradish for luck and a cheese ball.

Supper is whatever you can find in the frig or a 2nd piece of pie. mmmmm!

Floridascgirl-could one of you host the whole family instead of breaking it up? Seems like if you're the hostess, you get to pick the guests. Maybe not, eh? Seems like the cousins miss out on a family holiday. I love the memories we made as children. One year my cousin got us all up at about 1am and my dad grabbed us in the nick of time saying we could not get up until we could see the neighbor's house two fields away. Same cousin armed my little brother with a flashlight and sent him across the fields to shine the light on the neighbors house and downstairs we went. We didn't even wait for my little brother to tear into our gifts. Like I said, cousins should make memories too!

We are doing Monkey Bread for the first time this year actually. I've never done it before, I usually do cinnamon rolls but thought the MB would be a fun change. :)
Just an FYI for you, Denny's will send a coupon for a free meal if you sign up for the kids club. My DD's bday is Dec 15th, we got a free Grand Slam coupon for her bday, unfortunately she didn't want that so we went elsewhere. :)

While we open presents: Monkey Bread, Brie, mozzarella sticks, lobster cobbler, and carmelized onion tarts.

Lunch: Yak & Yeti.

Dinner at the rental house: Cheese tortelini with pesto sauce, Steamfresh green beans, and Sister Shubert's Parkerhouse rolls.
