We're going to MK next Saturday but not doing this event. It begins at 10, so will we have to immediately leave the park at 10? We usually like to walk through the shops on the way out but I wasn't sure if you are allowed to linger a bit during a special event at the front of the park?

No - it's handled more like an PM EMHs for off-site guests. Without DAH credentials you can't get on rides, but you can meander your way out of the park like you normally would.
