. . . do you have to take it?

If your waitlist resort becomes available, do they contact you to ensure that you want to take it? Or does it automatically give you your waitlist and cancel your current reservation?

Just trying to figure out at what point we need to know for sure where we want to stay. :-) That's why we love DVC - always something new to try!

Thanks. :-)

If your waitlist comes through you get it. MS doesn't call.

I don't think a successful waitlist cancels any other reservation. I wish it were configurable to both cancel the "Plan B" reservation and make elegant use of the points (oldest first, etc) without any fuss.

I went on 2 waitlists yesterday and was told that if either one came through, both the original reservations that I have for the dates, and the other waitlist would be cancelled. That's what I wanted. Maybe you could set it up differently.

Cool! I'll phone MS to see if I can "link" my WL (adding 1 more night to my THV stay) to my "Plan B" reservation (SSR 1BR unit for that one night). Having the 1BR auto cancelled in event of the THV booking would be very helpful. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, Bobbi! Phoned MS and added notes to cancel my 1BR unit should the THV WL come through!

Now we need some Pixie Dust for successful waitlists!

(and a prayer that the waitlists were set up properly and all goes as it should!)

Hmm. So for example, we currently have a reservation for AKV. At the 7 month mark, we will call and get on the waitlist for, say, BCV. If at some point BCV becomes available, they will simply make the reservation? If the original AKV ressie isn't auto cancelled, what if we don't have enough points to hold that waitlist ressie in addition to the AKV ressie?

Scratching my head on this one. I understand that if I ask MS to do it, they will auto cancel. But what if that doesn't happen? Where do those points come from to hold the waitlist ressie?

Is there a waitlist handbook laying around somewhere that I'm missing? :-)

Majority of waitlists are handled without issue.

MS will restore your points if they mess it up ( it may take awhile for them to get it straightened out if they do but they will ). jmho, I think you can be confident that it will all go smoothly.

Good luck :)

They can't make a reservation without points. There's no handbook. You should be asked these questions when you make the waitlist. I will caution you that even if you answer the questions the way you want, there could be mistakes made. For example: This happened last month for a stay next week. I had a 1 night waitlist and 1 night was supposed to be cancelled from a 3 night stay. I wanted to be somewhere else on the first night, and that was repeated to me. I explained where I wanted the "extra" 2 points to come from...when my 1 night waitlist came through, all 3 nights of the stay were cancelled! Luckily I noticed it on the member site! It wasn't just a shoe-in...MS was very sorry, but the AKV standard studios were all booked....eventually I did get the other two nights back in a value studio...not what I originally had, but acceptable to me.

I have been on a waitlist for 5 months now with no luck at all. I makes me crazy so I check the DVC member site daily. Still no change. Doesn't look good for us!!! We leave for vacation on July 23rd.
