If your not into lanyards...

I was trying to find a good retractable option myself. Found this one: https://www.amazon.com/Specialist-I...6&sr=8-18-spons&keywords=keycard+holder&psc=1 that seems like it would work but I haven't ordered yet. I also plan to carry my cellphone for photos so may just end up putting it in that case somehow.
Did they mind punching the hole or was it something you had to convince them to do? I'm wondering if that was just one CM who did you a favour or if they'd all do it with no problem. I don't know why it wouldn't come with a hole anyway.

I like the lanyard but when we dressed up for Palo I wanted something else in case DH and I split up after dinner. So I took along my retractable badge clip from work. I took the plastic pouch off the lanyard and hooked it onto the badge reel and wore it inside my dress, attached to my bra strap, so it didn't show. And sure enough, I wanted to change shoes between Palo and the show and had I not had the badge reel I wouldn't have had my key...

On Disney and royal I've had hem punch a hole. They have a hole punch for the purpose if I recall correctly. I don't like using the flimsy plastic pouches, and I won't use them, so I know I've had holes punched.

Use caution with that... Being placed next to/against cell phones has been known to demagnetize cards.
I've never heard of this. I have a speck case with a card slot that I use all the time for my DL, debit card, and Costco card (3 most frequently used.) On cruises, I do my kttw instead. Never had any trouble.

If the case is designed with a pocket then my guess is they have put in whatever protection they needed to to prevent cards from wiping. But I've heard of it on DCL, RCCL, and at WDW.

Maybe I'll get a few options and just see what works when I'm there. None of them are very expensive, so maybe it's just a trial and error sort of thing??

I don't usually have pockets on my clothes and I want it to be convenient..... hmmmm..... maybe there is something to this lanyard thing. :)

I think the electric current in the battery of the phone can use some magnetism and that can affect the card's magnetic stripe. However, the RFID chip that is in the cards which enables you to just touch the door lock to open it is not affected by anything magnetic. On my last cruise they were still swiping the cards in shops and bars, so there they used the magnetic stripe. But I thought someone recently mentioned that they now have the touch ability there as well. So the magnetic stripe would be pure decoration now anyway. The RFID is how the Magic Bands work, so at WDW it is not a concern anymore either. But I remember a time when there were a lot of people with problems with room keys at WDW because of that cellphone issue.

I have a small crossbody handbag. It holds my cellphone, KTTW on the lanyard, my ID, a credit card and a few ones, and a lipstick

Me too!! I find it very handy. Oh, and I keep it small enough that others in my group do not get the idea I will pack their stuff too!! ;)

Edited because of atrocious grammar while typing on my phone - I am so embarrassed!! :p

I thought it was a teeny tiny cape. :)

:teeth::D

From discussions over the years about why CMs always tell you that your card is demagnetized b/c of your phone, it seems that it depends on the card/stripe tech used. Disneyland used cheap cards, so they were easily demagnetized. Or, in my general case, halfway demagnetized, which is even more frustrating.

Perhaps DCL doesn't use such cheap cards.
