If your child is too sick for school...

There is NO excuse for taking your sick child to work w/ you or for sending them to school if they are truly sick. If that child is too sick for school then they need to be home resting and getting better.

Sorry if it's harsh but I've spent the day arguing w/ patients to wear face masks in the waiting room all day. Do you know how many people in the last 2 days want to be seen or have their kids seen for flu or flu symptoms and yet will argue tooth and nail about "how stupid" or "how uncomfortable" the masks are. We want to treat them, but we need to protect staff and other patients as best as we can. I have had enough of entitlement of people.

These are the same people though that would be just as livid to have them and their children sitting their and being surrounded by contagious flu patients coughing all over them. So funny whats good for everyone else is not for them!

I would of said something to my supervisor about the sick child being in the workplace, it's inappropriate.

If you are a healthcare provider, I hope you know that you can not force sick patients to wear masks. If you are so concerned, YOU should wear the mask.....you know....universal precautions and all that jazz.

Face masks? I don't know a single doctor that would insist on something like that -- it's just not the norm! Between that and the other doctor mentioned on here telling sick kids to not come in at all, I've got to wonder here why they are even in the health care business!

My daughter works in a hospital. All ER patients with symptoms of H1N1 are given and required to wear masks as soon as they enter the hospital.

As long as they aren't sick over a certain amount of days anyway. Around here if you keep your sick child home from school and don't go to the doctor, you could find yourself before a truancy board having to explain your actions and your child may be required to repeat that grade -- even if s/he is doing straight "A" work. Last year I was actually told by the school scet to let them come in and get counted for attendance and then have the nuse send them home.

LOL --- several years ago, our SCHOOL NURSE brought her sick child to work. She tried to hide her on a cot with a curtain pulled around her, but it didn't last long. :confused3

Last year my daughters teacher had to run out at lunch because her kid was sick at school and then brought her back to sit in the class with OUR kids the rest of the day!!:scared1:
Yesterday my friend was at a girl scout thing at Chuck E Cheese (or "yukky disease" as we like to call it) and one of the moms was in the bathroom sick...when asked if she was ok she said she was dizzy and had been having a fever and chills the last 2 days...oh great stupid...and you go to a place with a hundred darn kids, thats a real rocket scientist for ya!!

If your child is too sick for school, PLEASE do not bring them to work and allow them to SIT AT MY FREAKING DESK!! And then get offended when I require you to find clorox wipes to clean my desk

I think common sense isn't really the issue. Sometimes it's selfish actions of the parents. Sick kids interupt the parents schedules and some aren't too keen on accommidating to that. I have someone in my family much like that.

If my son runs a fever, he is at home...with me. Luckily I work at a company that understands this. Now if I could just get that family member to keep her kids away from my son when they have fevers, coughs and throwing up. But she often lets them play outside even if they haven't went to school.

As a mom who is out of sick time, vacation time and personal time, I can tell you I had to stay home today, unpaid with my sick child. He has h1n1.

It stinks that I will be missing 8 hours of pay (which is a good chunk of money that we could REALLY use right now).

We have canceled our TRT plans for Sat. My kids are so disapointed, but I know we are doing the right thing....now if only other parents would have as much sense!

This happened one time at our office. 30 seconds after I found out about it, I sent that person and her sick child home. She ranted and raved all the way out the door while the rest of the employees applauded. (well, they waited until she was out the door) Funnily, it's never happened again.

Never will understand that mentality!

I just got a call from the school to come get my daughter--I have h1n1 right now and every morning before sending her to school I take her temp to make sure she is not getting sick before sending her to school. I did that this morning too but by 1pm the school was on the phone saying she has 102.7 fever- I sent someone up to get her for me..she will not be going back until the Dr says she is all clear and I really am sorry if she got anyone else sick but I feel I did all I could do other than keeping her home all week on the CHANCE that she caught it from me.

Just throwing this out there...

What would you do if you couldn't miss another day of work or you'd get fired and you couldn't find anyone to watch your sick child?

I'm certainly not saying it's right to take your sick kid to work, but what if there was nothing else you could do? I know a lot of these parents are selfish and/or stupid, but some of them have no other choice.
