If you work for salary instead of hourly

DH and I never get overtime. Neither of us are prohibited from taking comp time, but it's often hard to arrange it b/c of workload.

I work for a very small organization -- 5 employees. I do have a lot of flexibility about taking off for kids activities and that kind of thing, but there is a certain amount of work that needs to be done and sometimes it is impossible for me not to work extra.

DH's situation is worse -- a lot worse -- but at least he gets paid significantly more than I do. He has routinely worked at least 50 hours a week for 19 years. It is not unusual for him to be at the office at 10 p.m. doing something that one of his hourly employees didn't get to b/c he's out of overtime budget.

We both have quite a bit of flexibility, though, and we get paid the same every month.

I am a "non-exempt" salaried employee. I am paid for overtime either with pay or comp time. If I'm working on a big project with lots of overtime, I would be paid. If it's just a couple of hours or so, I would get "comp" time. In either case, I would receive "time and a half" for overtime.

My company follows the exempt/non-exempt laws. Plus, we have officially stated a policy of no comp time.

But, I'm a manager and I give comp time all the time. I just can't bring myself to take PTO from my employees when they want a day off after working 70 hours for the 3 weeks. I'd say this is the one any only HR policy I knowingly and willingly violate.

DH doesn't. He is an engineer. He does come and go, but needs to get certain things done on time. He can take off days when he wants.
Saying that, he puts in very long hours.....but he does get paid very well.

DS is also an engineer and where he works he has set hours. Pay for overtime. The other engineers DH knows are so envious. It is almost unheard of.

I am hourly, so I punch in & out. My boss is salary, so she does not. If she works overtime one day, she can usually leave a bit or whatever another day, if she needs to.

Her boss (my bigger boss) is pretty flexible about hours as long as no one takes advantage, so it doesn't seem to be an issue for my boss usually.

Nope no overtime here but plenty of other intangible perks!
