If you won the lotto...

Would you fly your next holiday first class, or prefer to not know what you were missing out on for future flights? :rotfl:

No, I haven't won, I'm just curious what others would do under the circumstances...

Interesting question, I think I'd take the opportunity to fly first class. I like new experiences, even if I can never repeat them!

A few years ago DH won 2 flights to Hong Kong first class ( Virgin Atlantic) and a few nights accommodation.

We thoroughly enjoyed the pampering in the pointy end of the plane - we were offered champagne before we even sat down, fully flat seat/beds, with turn down service, cute 'jammies and a really nice bathroom, silver service dinner, I even received a hand and neck massage from the in-flight masseuse!

However, we decided after the flight that it was fun but that there was NO way that we would ever pay the prices that the airlines ask for first class, or even business class. We just felt that, for us, the return just doesn't match up to the investment - the bells and whistles were worth, at most, 150% of the economy price, not 300-400% more. We prefer to put the money towards nicer hotels etc.

Just recently I asked DH this same question - "if we won the lotto...", he said even then he wouldn't pay the price for first class!

I know! The price just isn't justifiable. $20000 for a nicer seat? You don't get there any faster then people who only pay $2000. I'd really like to be able to lie down for the whole flight but really I'd prefer to just buy a row of seats in economy :rotfl:

So to answer my own question, I suppose I wouldn't buy first class tickets, but I think I would enjoy winning them!

I'd have to do it, just once...or twice? LOL

If I won $70mil (like i'm going to this week) it may be ongoing...

if i won lotto, i'd maybe fly PE or business. actually. i'd definitely fly PE but maybe to the business.

i also cannot justify spending so much for some extra perks... sure, i'd love the perks if we got upgraded for free or if we won them... but paying $20000 just to fly there?? nope.

i would however upgrade our hotels, our transport options, our spending money and our suite on board the ship to a royal suite, but for the flight? nope. that money could be put to better use :)

oh, and if i won the $70 mil... i'd quit my day job for sure :)

We have this conversation in our house quite regularly, :goodvibes

DH says that even if we won big money he couldn't justify spending extra for business or first class airfares.

I say I'll meet you at our destination :rotfl:

Without a second thought.... yes most definitely :rotfl:

Although I guess if the lotto win was only $14.55 (like I won on Tuesday night), I will not be taking the first class option :rotfl:

Although in saying that, many international flights (with Qantas and V anyway) out of Brisbane don't have first class, only business. Going to the US I'd be happy with business (that's what we often fly anyway), but to Europe, first class for sure. I would give Emirates first a try as my mum flew them recently and said it was amazing, they have showers on board! How awesome being able to wash your hair and arrive all refreshed  Would love to try Singapores sky suites too

Yep, first class all the way for me if it was a big lotto win :thumbsup2

Come on lotto pixiedust: (better go and check last nights ticket)

That reminds me... I have some lotto tickets to buy :lmao:

I would try it once, maybe twice!!!!

Paying a squillion dollars for a seat that doesn't get you there any quicker than cattle class, I personally don't see the point. Yes, comfort would be nice, but I would rather spend the money on other stuff. I would fly premium economy just for that little extra room.

Then again, when i win $70 million i might think of buying my own jet, then I wouldn't have to worry. :rotfl2:

Oh Welley, I'm so sorry, I feel really bad . I hate to have to tell you this but I have the winning ticket for the $70 mill draw.

But don't dispair, there is a $20 mill draw on Thursday ;)

If I won the $70 million I'd never be travelling economy again so it wouldn't matter if I got used to it!!

But really - with kids I'd go business but not first class. As long as I had a bed I'd be happy.

Back before I had kids I travelled overseas quite frequently with my job and went business class (this was back in the day before flat beds, but it was still pretty good) - in the midst of that DH and I went to Canada and went economy, it was really hard to go back! Especially because I had passes for Qantas Club, so we had that, then it was back to cattle class on the plane.

Since that was 11 years ago I've gotten used to economy again - maybe one day (when the kids are on their own and we're not paying for 5 airfares) we'll go PE.

I think we'd go Business Class flights and save the rest of the winnings for Disney trips :goodvibes

We've flown Business a few times, and it's fabulous, but first wouldn't be worth the extra cost to me! I'd much rather a bunch of trips to Disney and a mix of business and economy flights!! Imagine the damage you could do at Park Hotels with money from the lottery :hyper:

When I was planning what we'd do when we won the $70million, flights in First Class to Orlando were the top of my list! I was flying all my extended family over, with the rest of them in cattle, maybe upgrading the parents into PE or Business, but us five in the luxury of first. But then again, with $70m we would hardly notice $200K going out - that would be like a month's interest!
