If you were the designer for the next resort, you would...

I thought about this question because I constantly change my mind where I want the family to stay during our first family visit to WDW. I would use the current resorts as inspiration to build my "perfect" resort, taking bits and pieces and meld them together. If I could design/build the next resort, I would:

1) Select the Contemporary for its convenient location to MK (my favorite park) & view
2) Chose the Grand Floridian for its granduer
3) Select the Poly for its casual, family atmosphere
4) Select the Contemporary for its room size and decor, making provisions for more storage
5) Select the Yacht Club for its bathrooms
6) Select the Poly for the lush landscaping
7) Select the Yacht Club for the pool area
8) Select the Contemporary for its use of free internet
9) Select the Contemporary for its bed/pillows
10) And of course, add lots of pixie dust for the most magical experience:cloud9:

DH has always pointed out how the monorail resorts are themed to match the different MK lands (Contemporary= Tomorrowland, Wilderness Lodge= Frotierland, Polynesian= Adventurland, Grand Floridia= Main Street). And we've both always lamented the lack of a Fantasyland hotel. I'd put it in that area between the GF and the MK where there's currently the sidewalk to nowhere.

alternatively, I could see Disney doing something similar to the Atlantis hotel, with an all underwater theme. With both Nemo and the Little Mermaid as mascots.

I'd like to see another deluxe resort priced in the WL/AKL range. As far as theme, underwater them is a great idea -- the lobby would be set up featuring underwater creatures just as AKL features animals. Then there could be a huge acquarium featuring real underwater life. I think a good transportation option would need to be incorporated, such as the WL boat ride to MK.

A moderate hotel with a Princess theme. Each section could be themed after a Princess and her beau. We need the beau so the guys won't think it's a girlie hotel. LOL! The pool and water slide would be in the middle of all the sections. The main attraction in the center of the pool would be a castle with various water activities for the kids. There would be different levels and water slides. Each water slide would end in that's Princess's section.

I think a moderate resort with a pirate/princess theme would be great. As for deluxe hotels, the possibilities are almost endless. I love the idea of a fantasyland hotel, or an underwater castle themed hotel. A toontown fair hotel would be great too :)

I would love a Castle shaped hotel with a princess/prince charming theme with a moat around it. The boats in the moat will lead to Magic Kingdom

That would be amazing!

How about a hero and villian themed resorts? Once the boys outgrow Pooh, there is very little for them.

I was thinking the Atlantis Theme is a wonderful idea! They have aquariums in many places throughout Disney, Restraunts, parks, etc. and I think a resort themed like Atlantis would also compete for those guests wanting to venture to Seaworld. Without the shows of course, just immersed in the whole under sea theme and water everywhere including pool.:cool1:

I have to agree 100% I would LOVE to see a fantasy-land type theme at one of the resorts, something with that over the top feeling of magic!

Always wanted to see a MGM hotel themed after 1940's Hollywood era.

I would definitely like to see a Deluxe Castle resort and I think there are ways to do it where it wouldn't be quite so girly... Including the princesses they could have knights and dragons. They could have a TS restaurant similar to Medieval Times without the horses and stuff. In fact they could do a whole medieval theme maybe set it up like Excalibur in Las Vegas.

Apart from the castle I'd like to see a Disney on steroids hotel similar to AS Movies, but even more garish and over the top. Call me crazy but I think most of the resort hotels are not "disney" enough.

Great thread and great ideas! I would have to agree that I would like to see another deluxe resort added with the same price range as WL and AKL.

Love this idea!

I'd love to see more options standard room options for families of larger than 4!

I don't really know what "theme" I would pick but I would love to see Disney creat a resort for large families that are reasonable. My DH is the only one who works and with 6 children it is a pain to have to book 2 rooms connecting or not. We could afford the moderate resorts but not when we have to pay for 2 rooms. KWIM??

They should make rooms that are large enough for a large family.

I would love to see a resort with Nemo and Ariel theme too;)

Ditto on the large rooms for a large family...of course, without too large of a price! I love the idea of a waterworld-type hotel, especially since Florida is on the ocean, etc.

I've often thought that it would be great if Disney had a resort that allowed pets in the rooms. So I would design a value resort specifically for this. Theming would be towards Disney pet characters and movies...Pluto, Lady and the Tramp, Oliver and Company, etc. (maybe leaving out 101 Dalmatians, since All Star Movies already has that one). The resort would cost more than the other value resorts, but would include built-in kennels in each room (which would make the rooms somewhat larger than other value resorts) and pet walking areas by each building. Guests would be totally responsible for attending to their pets. Pets could be left in the rooms, but would need to be in the kennels when the owners were not available. Our hardest part about taking a vacation to Disney is leaving our dogs behind, and paying extra would be worth it to bring them with us.

Personally, I'd like to see some "Ulta-themed" resorts.

How about a hotel based on the enchanted castle from Beaty and the Beast?

How about one based on the Haunted Mansion?

The current resorts are great... but imagine living living RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF EVEN MORE MAGIC. The down side is they would be pricey. but at least at the HM resort, cleaning wouldn't have to be such a priority. Mold in the bathroom? It's all part of the themeing!
