which restaurant would you choose? We are going in June and will only do one of these. Also, since we will mainly be eating counter service, what are the best? Thanks!

Have you narrowed down your choices at all? Any specific area you want it to be in or any special kind of food?
If it were just DH & I we would do Yachtsman Steakhouse. If we had the kids with us it would probably be Ohana, but it would be a tough call between that and Mama Melrose.

That's a difficult question because it depends on what mood I might be in at the time. Like, do I want seafood, steaks, a certain country's cuisine? So, I must break it down in categories, sorry.

Steak - Yachtsman Steakhouse

Seafood - Narcoosee's

Sushi - Kimonos

French - Chefs de France

Unique Menu - Artist Point

Breakfast Sit-Down - Kona Cafe at the Poly

It's too hard, too many choices.

I love the Prime Time Cafe at MGM... It's a fun, relaxed, reasonably-priced place with great food!

I should have specified that I will have my 2 & 4 yr olds along, does that change suggestions? We would probably be looking for pretty traditional fare, so we'd probably skip the World Showcase places. Thanks! What's Ohana like?

For a 2 and a 4 I would recommend a character dinner at Chef Mickey's (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale...) or charcater lunch or dinner at the Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom(Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger). There is a good bit of variety and the children will love the characters. (I think my first choice would be lunch at Crystal Palace!)
Have fun!

I would go quality all the way so my vote would be for Brown Derby in MGM. It is not that I love the atmostphere but the food is just wonderful!

Ohana is an all you can eat meal at the Polynesian Resort.
You are served appetizers of pineapple bread, chicken wings, beans, rice, salad, and shrimp wontons first. Then your server comes around with skewers of meat...usually beef, turkey, shrimp & pork. You get as much or as little of whatever you choose and you can get refills of the appetizers too.
Through out your meal they have hula hoop contests and coconut races(the kids sweep them around with brooms).
Your 2 yo would eat for free there. If your kids wouldnt eat that food they can get an alternative kid's meal, but Im guessing your 2yo would be charged if they got that.

However now hearing the ages of your kids, I think johnsonet had a good idea with Chef Mickeys. We have never done that for dinner, only breakfast(which we love), but a 2 & 4 yo might get more out of that than they would at Ohana. Your 2yo would still eat for free there too.

When we are picking only one of these, depends on where we are going to be, and which one we ate at last.

Artist Point, Jiko or Flying Fish.

Okay, I change my vote. Make it fun for the kids and go to Chef Mickey's. It's hectic and kinda loud (we've been at breakfast) but I think your kids might really enjoy it.

Any kid experience with characters? I wouldn't want your kids to be frightened.

Food wise, if you like a buffet, there'll be plenty of choices, I'm sure!

ONLY ONE????? That is just CRUEL... with all of those in the WORLD to choose from and ONLY ONE????

Yachtsman... big, juicy steaks, cooked JUST RIGHT, even an alien would fall in love with them!

Just one with the kids? Crystal Palace really gives the kids a great opportunity to meet the characters. It is buffet so there are plenty of choices for "picky" eaters. Say hi to "Tigger" for me.

I would go with Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner. It is a character dinner but since it is a sit down dinner it doesn't seem as crazy as some others we've been to. Food is served family style and is very good (turkey, ham, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, etc.)

We have had dinner at Crystal Palace as well and it was fun but seemed much more hectic than LTT (I guess because it is a buffet and people are always going to and from getting food).

Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge, Great food, Great interaction, not bad price for all you can eat (on the skillet dinners) One of our must do's in Disney!!!

thats a hard one, but probably fultons, since thats the only place I have ever gotten good king crab.

with the kids I would do a character meal.

Chef Mickeys in the CR can be VERY loud...Crystal Palace in MK is a little quieter...any specific characters the kids want to see??

MAry Poppins & friends are at 1900 Park FAre (Grand Floridian) for Breakfast & at dinner (same place) they have Cinderellla & friends. We have found the meals at Grand Floridian are a little quieter.

There is always breakfast at the castle in MK...or if princesses are a required character...the princess breakfast in Epcot in Norway!

The dinners at Liberty Tree Tavern are some of the best character interactions we have ever had!! One night Meeko feed my then 2 yr old DS his ENTIRE plate of mac n cheese!!

It is hard with little ones to try & figure what they will like & how they will react to characters! WE have 6 kids & have had about every experience you can imagine in all the years we have gone!

With kids... a character meal.... Garden Grill

Without kids... Yachtsman!

Boy, that is a hard decision!

Well-certainly NOT the California Grill, where--unless you are correctly dressed and your kids are quiet as mice--you will likely offend the locals or the business people who are dining there.

Only one.... I would say O'hanas. The food and atmosphere are great and it's a lot of fun for the kids - they all love the coconut races and the hula dancing.

But if you wanted to do a character meal, than my vote would be for Chef Mickey's. We've eaten there for dinner on our last 2 trips and it is always one of the high points for the kids.

With the 2 young kids, I would also say a Character Meal - Those were always such high points for my DS when he was little. Chef Mickey's is lots of fun, but it is pretty boisterous. If you are looking for something quieter, 1900 Park Faire is a good alternative.

As far as the counter service part of your question - My favorite CS locations are:

Magic Kingdom - Columbia Harbour House & Cosmic Rays. El Pirata Y Perico when open
Epcot - Tangerine Cafe in Morocco & Yakatori House, Japan
MGM - Yuck - counter-service here is not good - take a launch to Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club
Animal Kingdom - Tusker House & Flame Tree Barbeque
