How would you divide your time (first trip) between the city and DLPR? Would you get hotels in each location, or make day trips from one base ?
It will be just my DH and I celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We wouldn't need to spend much time at the Louve, or other museums as I have been lucky to see a lot of great art in traveling exhibits etc.

My husband and I are going to be in Paris for a week in September. This will be our first trip to Paris and first trip to DLP.

However in saying that we have been to WDW twice.

We are staying in Paris and taking the train out to DLP just for the day. Having seen WDW before we won't need to spend so much time at DLP.

Paris on the other hand is all new to us so we plan on seeing and doing as much as we can.

It depends on what is more important for you? seeing Paris or Disney.

I would treat Paris and DLP as two separate locations and get hotels at each. Spend most of the time in Paris as there are lots to see and experience. Spend 2 nights in DLP at the end of the trip.

Traveling between the two is time consuming and not completely safe at night.

That depends on how long you are staying.

We would take a hotel in Disney.
Spend the time you need or like in Paris and in the evening go for a sniff of pixie Dust to the park.
The park is still open after the Louvre has shot his gates

I'd agree with staying in both locations. I would not be worried about safety though. Like most cities if you be sensible you'll be fine. We wandered around the Pigalle are at 1.00am and felt perfectly safe. So much so that my girlfriend suggested we go in to a cafe :)

I would also opt for two hotels, One in Paris for 4 nights then one in DLRP for 3. Athough travelling between DLRP & Paris is as safe as any large city can be it is time consuming and would increase the cost. There are two parks at DLRP & Disney Village, there will be plenty to keep you occupied for 3 nights.

Congratulations on your anniversary :wizard:

I grew up in Paris and my family still live there and can tell you that although it is true that you can walk around the city at night and be safe as long as you are aware of your environment.

It is another matter to ride the RER A (DLR RER) to and from the suburbs at night. RER A crosses several stations in suburbs known to have gang problems - Torcy being one of them. There are other stations that the RER do not stop anymore at late at night.

Again, as a local, it is not completely safe to ride the RER at night. We take the RER A at night only if there is no other choice, most of the time we drive.

Just sharing my experience. :)

Thanks so far for all of the input. The trip would mostly be about Disney.....but of course we would be mocked and ridiculed if we didn't do some things in the city. I have never had a big desire to see Paris (spent 6 weeks in the south of France years ago). What I am really looking forward to is a night time river cruise on the siene, and a trip to Musee Orsay (spelling ?) for the impressionists.
Maybe fly into paris and spend the first night exploring around the hotel, the next day go to the museum and the river cruise, and spend a second night, then maybe do a hop on/off bus.....then train over to DLP for a 4pm check in and spend 4 nights?
Maybe i should consider one more night in Paris....and do a 3/4 split.I am guessing you need 3 solid days for a full experience at DLP?

Please keep your advice coming.

I would suggest spending most of your time in the City itself... DLPR is a 2 day thing at the most. So I highly suggest spending as much time as possible in Paris. I'm a disney lover...I am...The hotels aren't that great and you will be somewhat disappointed if you've been to WDW a lot... It's like DLCA...

Here's my take. It depends on how much of a Disneyhead you really are. Studio Disney is VERY small and can be done in a half day or a bit more. I think in 3 days you could ride just about every ride and see every show/parade that the parks have to offer. You dont say when you are going. Off season the park is open less hours but there are very few lines and less shows and parades.

You could spend weeks in Paris and not see it all. One of my favorite parts of Paris is just walking around. Museums are nice and all but dont forget to just take in the city. Its really lovely. I would spend no more than 3 nights at Disney personally.

We are very Disney savy.......more days than I can count at DLR, 8 ,week long trips to WDW, and one day at Tokyo Disney Seas. We would most likely be happy with two full days at DLP......but that would take 3 nights. We would like to be there on May 14th, our actual anniversary. Right now none of the Disney hotels are really calling to me, except the one I can't afford!
In Paris i will most likely want to stay in an American chain (Hyatt,Hilton,Marriott) just because we belong to all of their loyalty programs and want the points!. I am a Hilton Honors silver VIP (hoping to make gold) so I am also interested in anyone who has stayed in Hilton properties in the area.

We stayed at Marriott properties in Paris many times, and were very pleased.
TIP: Check out the Renaissance Place Vendome. Fabulous!

We are also HH members, but haven't stayed at a Hilton property in Paris.

Be aware that most of these properties in Paris are VERY expensive. If you also belong to the Intercontinental Hotels programs, Holiday Inns can sometimes be gotten for relatively reasonable prices. We did a Paris/DLP trip with the kids a few years ago and stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Place de l'Republique, and it was quite acceptable.

If you google "Paris Hilton" you will get many hits.

thanks again, I am glad i have so long to plan :) . I may compromise, and only spend two nights at DLP....but take the plunge and stay at the Disney (pink) hotel over our actual anniversary. I am rather certain we deserve it ;)

I have a giggle when I read this....since i am a DL / DCA moderator :), and actually have a soft spot for DCA. However i know exactly what you mean!

When I went to DLP I arrived late the first day so I stayed at the Holiday Inn which was right up the street from DLP with a free shuttle, the first night to save money before moving to the Newport Bay. I honestly wished I spent the whole trip at the Holiday Inn. It really wasn't about the money (although the HI was 1/3 of the cost) it was the treatment I received. There were more English speakers at the HI, nicer employees and honestly the upkeep seemed better. I also walked through the New York hotel and the Sequoia and neither of them were that great either. I compare the Newport bay to the location of the Beach Club (great), the quality of the DL hotel in anaheim (fair at best) with the employees of a Super 8 I once visited in Youngstown OH (extremely poor). I feel like I'm in the minority here since NB gets positive reviews on this site all of the time but to me it's like paying for the Grand Floridian and staying at the All Stars at WDW. I know this is an anniversary trip and you'd like to go all out but I don't feel any of the on-site resorts at DLP are worth the money. I never got a chance to check out the DL hotel but for the price, I'm making an assumption.

I am open to anything at this point.....maybe a suite at the Holiday Inn is a nice compromise!
