If you wear glasses everyday...

Funny this is the first I've thought of this.

I wear glasses everyday. I don't have a good relationship with my contacts at all. I also think that I look funny without them... possibly because I'm so accustomed to them. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there like this, lol!

So did you wear your glasses to the ceremony? Did you skip them? Do you plan on wearing them... or not?

I was thinking of going blindly to the ceremony  and putting them on right after... but what if I think I look funny in my pictures. I really don't want contact drama to deal with, and it's always just that... drama. everyone knows me in glasses--but I'm just afraid the black half frames will be so dramatic against the dress. Maybe order a pair of silver half frames just for this?

Thoughts?

I wear glasses everyday myself - have for 30 years.
I plan on wearing my glasses for our VR - I don't want to look too "different" in our photos, etc.

I wear glasses everyday as well (actually have a few pairs of different colours, to "co-ordinate!!!)...but I did wear contacts on the day of our wedding. I'm glad I did, and I'll list a few reasons why...
-unless you do order silver/rimless, the rim will contrast quite a bit
-if you cry, you have to cram your hand under the rim (you WILL cry ;) )
-In pictures, the out-of-this-world-happy expressions on your face will show a lot more without glasses
-If you run into some bad weather (like we did...we live in Ontario, Canada, and what happened in our city was the closest thing to a hurricane we'll ever get!) and it starts raining, you'll have to worry about rain drops all over your lenses.

What I did was I ordered the best contacts I could find at a reasonable price. I wore them for a few hours every now and then up until the day of the wedding. My eyes dry out very easily, so I researched for the best kind for dry eyes, and made sure I had a mini bottle of re-wetting drops (and I made sure all my bridesmaids did too lol). It worked out great, and I'm so glad I wore contacts!

One more little thing to add...
My best friend planned on wearing contacts the day of her wedding, but ended up with a nasty bout of pink eye right on the day of her wedding (what a nightmare!) so she either had to wear her glasses or nothing. She decided on nothing and really regretted it because she couldn't see anything...her to-be husbands face walking down the aisle, some of the guests, a few things during the ceremony.
Just thought I'd throw that in there!!!! You do want to see on your wedding day :thumbsup2

I just started wearing contacts last week just so I didn't have to wear glasses on my wedding day. I saw wedding pictures of a girl who wore glasses on her wedding day and it just didn't look right. It worked well for the groom but the bride looked funny with glasses in her dress even though she wears glasses every day of her life. I say go for the contacts for one day.

I say do what you are more comfortable with. If you hate contacts and think you look funny with them, it's just another thing to stress over and you may not like how you look in pictures.

My sister wears glasses all the time, she has contacts but never wears them. She was a BM in my wedding party and wore her glasses. I think she looks great in the pictures and she looks like herself.

I'm definitely wearing mine. I can't see more than two feet from my face without them, I can barely put drops in my eyes so contacts have never been an option, and I think I look like I'm twelve when they're not on my face to make me look smart. . . ;)

If you love them, wear them!

Rock your glasses, girl! I've seen several wedding pics of brides wearing their glasses and they look stunning! You need to do what's most comfortable for you! It's your day!

personally (as a former glasses wearer - yay lasik!) i would not want to go "blind". but, given the types of frames i favored, i would buy a new pair that were "dressier" - i always had more than one set of frames anyway. but you should do whatever you like!

I say go with whatever you are most comfortable with! I think the site Coastal Contacts gives out free pairs of glasses every now and then, you may want to follow their site and have a nice pair made! I would google "Free glasses from Coastal contacts" see what comes up!

Also, I am a long time wearer of contacts (hoping for lasik next year!) and find them extremely comfortable. If you find a good doctor and a patient consultant to teach you they can often be very comfortable. I find the two week disposables to be more comfortable then the dailes or the yearly contacts. They are less maintenance then the yearly contacts as well....If you have the opportunity to get used to them you may just end up really liking them I use Opti Free solution as I find it is easier on the eyes, my contacts are from B&L, I would have to see what they are called though :)

The most important thing is when putting the contact on is:
A They are moist, helps with the suction to the eye
B. You move your eye back and forth to allow for a good suction/fit.
C. You maintain them by soaking at least 6 hours every evening in new solution.
D. When taking out of the case I often use my knuckle so I don't tear them with my nails....

PS I worked at a Eye Drs office and taught others to use contacts lol

Good luck on whatever you choose to do!

If you do decide to get some fab new glasses dont forget to get the anti-reflective lenses, you'll want to be able to see your eyes in your photos and not have the sun bouncing off the surface of the lense.

I wear my glasses every day, and don't even own contacts, but I didn't wear them on my wedding day. I didn't want glasses in my pictures, and I felt that my particular frames would not have "gone" with my dress and accessories lol So I left them off. I don't have a super strong prescription, so it wasn't that big of a deal. But I really think it is personal preference.

Wow! Quite a few people have talked about brides looking "weird" in glasses. I wear glasses every day and wore them for my wedding, and frankly, I don't think I looked "weird" at all. I loved how I looked and I loved how our pictures turned out!

Like you, I wanted to look like me for my wedding and my pictures.

If you are really so concerned about your frames clashing with your dress, can you try your dress on with them and have someone take a few pictures?

Just so you know... if you like Coastal Contacts on facebook, you can get a pair of free glasses! :thumbsup2 I just did it. :D

wow :goodvibes i'm overwhelmed with the responses! thanks for all the options and opinions... they really are helping me sort this out... and hopefully will be a good topic for others who may have the same dilemma. so far, here's what i've decided...

*i don't want to go blind, lol
*i am going to get a lighter silver, pretty pair just in case
*i am going to get new contacts--if i get used to them-they'll be an option
*i may not even decide till that day, lol
*i really don't want to look different and he said he's used to me in glasses
*i probably need to see me in my dress with and without them to decide

i always get the anti reflect, and i did just score a pair on coastal contacts!! they aren't really for the wedding, but good for a backup just in case something would happen.. ya know? i also am going to re-talk to my eye doctor about contacts and hopefully will find something that is super comfy for me. right now i have dailies aqua comfort... and they are the best so far, but they don't like to go in my eyes and should i even nap for a few minutes they make my eyes very upset and irritated for days. maybe something for extended wear may be better for me.

thank you to everyone for helping me!!

Deena, I use 1 day Accuvue Moist and I really like them! My doc said they were good for first time users, and also good for my astigmatism. They are pretty comfortable and I can wear them for 12+ hours on most days. The only problem is they are pretty expensive!!! About $1 per pair so I don't wear them every day. I recommend starting to train yourself on contacts early, though, because after 6 months I still struggle to get mine in sometimes!

sounds like you have a good plan going on. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. The only thing I thought was worth mentioning is this, I have worn contacts for...apprx. 35 years (yikes! can that be possible am I that old?), anyway, I have found my comfort level depends more on how well the Dr. fits me than it does on the actual contact lens company (although that certainly can matter as well). My suggestion is before ordering contacts again make an appt for a new fitting. And when you make the app. verify the ophthalmologist is certified in contact lens fitting. From what I've been told not all are. I can no longer wear contacts due to a physical limitation, but I sooooo wish I could. Good luck!!!

I wore mine, I wanted to see everyone's smiling faces as I walked down the aisle, plus I wanted my pictures to look like me.

If we do our VR, I'll wear 'em then too.
