where would you go? or where have you gone?

I have a special birthday coming up and want something really special. Not into tons of commercial type touristy stuff but there has to be something to keep DH engaged! lol Places, hotels/resorts you've stayed at, ideas? Within the US please.

Thank you!

New Orleans and Key West come to mind - both places with lots of adult entertainment options, both warm (usually) and with lots of eating/drinking/entertainment venues to choose from - both historic if you like that stuff but also rowdy and fun if that's your style!

are you looking for summer? We did Beaver Creek, CO for 4th of July and it was great! Did white water rafting, and ski lift, etc. Very fun.

i want to take DD13 to washington DC and new york city. TONS of historical and fun things to do in both places.

DH and I have rented a cabin (two different times, different cabins) in the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and loved both vacations immensely.

The cabins were beautiful, with so many amenities (gas fireplace in living room, full kitchen with dishwasher, 2-3 bedrooms and bathrooms, pool table, air hockey, big screen TV's/gaming systems, hot tubs, swings/rockers on the decks, etc.) we spent a lot of time in them just enjoying what the cabins had to offer, and the gorgeous mountain views all around us.

Yes the area has a lot of tourist stuff, but you don't have to do any of that if you don't want to. There are a lot of really neat, unique restaurants, and just driving the many routes in the mountains are wonderful. And lots of hiking trails if you're interested in that sort of thing, fishing, rafting, etc.

We were just there this past March (it had been 3 years since the previous visit) and we hope to go again in a couple years. We love the area.

This summer, we spent a week in the Mt. Rushmore area of South Dakota. I was amazed at how much there was to do just in that area! Mt. rushmore, Crazy Horse, lots of caves, Custer State Park (LOTS of buffalo and other animals), Badlands National Park (smaller version of the Grand Canyon and just as beautiful), took a day trip to Devils Tower, Wyoming (where they filmed Close Encounters of the Third Kind), very affordable helicopter tour of the area, alpine slide, etc. I hadn't expected to enjoy it as much as I did, but it turned out to be one of my most favorite vacations!:thumbsup2 We had our 2 teenage sons with us, and THEY even enjoyed it.

We did this in 2009 and loved it. The nice thing is you can camp or stay in really nice resorts. We camped and our neighbors took a bus tour for the day. They ended up being the only ones on the bus and their bus driver was the historical society president. Who just happened to be a retired history teacher. They learned so much and we learned a lot from them.

We are doing a 3 week cross country trip with our boys and nephews this coming summer. It will include most of the major national parks, and a few other stops - but it is mostly about the beauty of nature in America. We are all very excited about it. The 5 boys, aged 11 - 15, are talking about it as a true adventure.

Four Seasons Resort in Maui and the Four Seasons Hualali big island of Hawaii, both are truly spectacular!!!

I like places in the mountains personally. The Ozarks, the Smokies, the Rockies - I love mountains in general.

California is also nice particularly San Diego.

Vegas or NYC would be my next top picks to Disney :thumbsup2 ...

Happy Birthday! (in advance) :goodvibes ...

I went to The Boulders in Scottsdale, Arizona for my last birthday. It was a fun time!

Caribbean Cruise. Hands down.

My husband and I travel a lot and our favorite places have been....

1) San Francisco-- The Bay Area is really cool...lots of shopping, great restaurants. We rode the trolly car and did a boat ride that took us under the Golden Gate Bridge which was super memorable. We stayed a The Westin which was very nice and cozy and right in the hub of things!!

2) San Antonio- The Riverwalk. We have been there during Christmas time and they have it all decorated with beautiful lights. Lots of places to eat...GREAT mexican cuisine!! Just a REALLY neat experience. They have nice hotels that are right off The Riverwalk.

3) Vegas---- cant go wrong there. TONS of excitement and fine dining!!!
