If you think the refillable mug people are bad ...

It's not called pop, it's called coke! (even if it is a Pepsi). :rotfl2:
Exactly. :thumbsup2

I see the TV show "Extreme Couponing" and am amazed at the lengths people go in terms of time spent (some were saying 35 hours a week! Practically a full time job!) to save money on grocery shopping.
I am not familiar with the show (we don't get it here), other then what I read on the boards about it. But for me, couponing and following a budget enabled me to stay at home with my kids, and therefore it was worth the extra time it took (though nowhere near 35 hrs./wk.) for me and my family before we moved to Africa.

We call it Pop too.
And we stretch as much use out our refillable mugs as we possibly can ;) Too bad they don't work for us at home!

I don't look with disdain with guests who reuse their refillable cup. Because Honestly I don't know their situation economic or otherwise.

Sometimes it doesn't make economic sense to buy the cup if you are only there for a few days or a limited time.

If Disney was upset, they would be actively doing something about it. But they have far bigger fish to fry.

Oh and I call it Coke. I think it's a southern thing. I could be wrong.

if you are allowed to resuse the chuckie cups this is a non-thread...........unless the disclaimer "not taping of cracked cups allowed" is printed on the cup:)

What is this thread about, anyway. Someone purchases some cups that promise a lifetime refill and then uses them that way. They made the commitment and are coming back to the pizza place, right? Just what Chucky-Cheese wanted!!!! The marketing ploy worked!!!

Now at WDW, it is my understanding that you purchase a mug for unlimited refills for the duration of THAT STAY and then only at that resort, not as a life-time free-refill opportunity. Coming back with your mugs for a separate vacation is tacky, and wrong.

Chucky-Cheese pays pennies for a cup of soda-pop (see, I used both), but it gets customers returning where they will spend money on pizza and games. The promotion is doing exactly what it was meant to do.

I also don't get the comment about how these people were dressed. I've seen people spend hundreds of dollars on jeans that are worn and have holes cut in them. How is this more fashionable than a poor person's second-hand clothing???

The only reason that refillable mugs are a hot-button issue is that Disney did the exact same marketing ploy in the 1990's when they first introduced the refillable mug program. I bought my first mug at Port Orleans resort, before "French Quarter" was tacked on. Back then, the cast members actively encouraged guests to purchase the mug and bring it back on subsequent trips. But they did mention the mugs were only good at the sister resorts, Port Orleans and Dixie Landings (now Port Orleans Riverside).

All the resorts at the time had the restriction of "same mug only at same resort". It wasn't until about 1999 or 2000 (circa the Millennium Celebration) that I started to see placards at the beverage stations that stated the mugs were for the current length of stay only. I did bring back my Port Orleans mug for stays at the two sister resorts, and I bought new mugs when I stayed at other resorts. Once I saw the length of stay signs, I never brought a mug back.

While I think that's kind of silly to restrict it now, I thought Disney could have done that bar code scanner thing they tested out at the water parks. I'd have no problem buying a scanner card for beverages for my length of stay, and if I used my own mugs, I'd be practicing that "Environmentality" thing with Jiminy Cricket as the spokes-character.

I dont think the "refillable mug people" are bad.

I question the people who spend their vacation time monitoring and judging the "refillable mug people" and then spend even more precious time fretting about it.

As Pete once said..."it's SODA folks.....get over it."
:worship:

Yeah, Disney might have a odd way at looking at things sometimes, but even they know better than to crack down on those people who spend $5,000 on a vacation then sneak a soda...

I agree and wonder why they haven't done the bar code thing. Regardless of the length of stay, however, for us I wouldn't purchase one because of having to go to the food court. If you get a refill on your way to the parks, you have to carry it with you.

Personally, we bring our own coffee pot from home and pick up beverages at the grocery store on our way from the airport.
