If you rent DVC points can you still get the DDP?

I've looked all over for this answer. We are thinking about renting DVC points before we commit to buying in to DVC. I'm not sure what the rules are about the dining plan and renting points. If free dining is offered are you ineligible for that offer?

Yes, you can get the DDP if you are renting points. You just have to be willing to give your CC number to the person you are renting from because they will have to arrange it for you. You will not, however, be able to take advantage of any free dining offers. For us, the discount we receive renting points is much bigger than the savings we would get paying rack rate and having free dining.

Thanks!!! I've run the numbers several ways and renting points IS the better deal. Plus we will have a kitchen so meals can be prepared in the room and we won't even have to deal with the DDP!!

I am renting DVC points and want to add the dining plan. I have seen where instead of giving him my CC #, I could give him a Disney Gift Card, but actually I think CC would be safer because of fraud protection.

Couldn't I pay him through paypal and he'd make the reservation using his info or does the card used to make the Dining Plan reservation have to be shown at check in?

Everyone who is renting will have to make their own arrangements with the owner they're renting from as to how they will pay for the dining plan. That's because DVC won't deal with anyone who isn't the actual member, so the renter can't call Member Services to book the dining plan. You can work it out any way you want, there's no need to show anything at at check-in regarding payment for the dining plan.
