Do you wait for a 'good' price? Do you notice any pricing trends- (Like how gas costs more in the summer?)

We take a large amount when we go and I noticed last time that when we have so many pounds of cans, a few cents difference in price makes a big difference in the amount of Disney Dollars I get in exchange :)

No, but we have only gone twice now. I don't have room to keep too many at once, so we have to go when a contractor bag gets full and my patience runs out at them being left on my kitchen counter.

We live in the house I grew up in, so he went through the back yard and is going to take in some stuff he found out there, hoping it will bring in more, since it is heavier.

here we get certain prices for certain items like cans are 10cents and 2 litre plastic bottles are 25 cents and 4 liter milk jugs are 25 cents each.

Things must be different in Alberta than here in Ontario. We do not get any money for aluminum cans unless they are beer cans, and in that case you already paid for 5 cent deposit on the can when you originally purchased it and are just getting it back.

No deposits here in Indiana. We're just selling them as scrap metal.

What price do you guys get for recycling aluminum currently? I went about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I got 50 cents a pound in MD.

Wow. It's been awhile since I last went but I only got .25. The time before that I think I got .40 though.

We have to pay deposits on everything including milk containers and juice boxes so we get that back when we take them in.... on average we get about $20 every 2 months.

The price of aluminum on the market changes quite often. Lately there have been BIG swings in the price of metals. Watch the markets...in the past thre have been trends, but in the last 6 or 7 months, it is anything goes...changes all over the place.

No, DH takes them when I threaten to build a hut with them for him to sleep in because he keeps putting off taking them. :lmao:

He took them 2 weeks ago and the price was up at that time - I think he got about $35 but I'm not sure how many pounds he turned in. The $ goes toward spending money for the kids for day trips and vacations.

Sad but true our cans all go to the land fill we have to drive more than 30 miles to the closest recycling center that buys cans we NEVER drive the truck that direction an DH not about to haul cans in the van an I don't blame him. Even with a whole truck load of cans we'd be hard pressed to make more than 10.00 after paying for the gas in that old gas guzzler. It just now worth it to use to have the mess of the cans.....

In Oregon for Water bottles and soda can you already paid 5 cent deposit on the can or bottle when you originally purchased it and are just getting it back.

It's not your fault, but this makes me sad. I'm lucky to live in an area with curbside recycling. They take #1-6 platic, metal cans, glass bottles, and cardboard/mixed paper as well. I can basically recycle everything right outside my front door. Plus, I have a compost pile. My weekly garbage is often less than 1 trash bag for a family of 4.

I know you reuse from that other thread... I just wish recycling was encourage in the rest of the country, because I'm sure you'd do it.

I take mine to the scrap yard to recycle. I go about once a month or so. On January 29 aluminum was paying .54 a lb here.

Last summer it was down to .25 a lb.

We just put ours out for the recycling guys to take once a week. I ought to look into taking them somewhere myself to get extra cash. DH drinks 4 or 5 12 packs of diet coke a week.

The last 2 weeks I noticed that someone went thru our recycling and took all the diet coke cans. I guess they really needed the money.

I called the local place today and they said .55 per pound or .60 for over 100 lbs. Can't wait to see what we have!

Around here we have people who go thru the recycling to get the cans for the deposit - 5 cents per can. There is a really really old guy who does it on my street. I see him stopping all over town. He has a fairly nice car so I'm wondering if he just does it as a hobby or if he truly needs the money.

ETA - we turn in our cans for the deposit money but DH collects other scrap metal for the money. In particular copper and brass bring a lot. my dad collects scrap steel it doesn't bring much about 10 cents a lb., but he still got $600 last time he went.

We get away with not paying deposits on milk jugs because our milk comes in bags and cartons, with only one convenience store selling jugs. But the majority is bags.
I don't think the US has anywhere that sells milk by the bag.:confused3
