Slightly off topic, I am also surprised how many women DON'T wear their engagement/wedding rings all the time. The jeweler did comment to my wife that she was not the norm in wearing hers all the time. This after noting how dirty my wife's rings were.
Only time they have been off my wife's finger are for a cleaning, or when we had the two times we had the prongs rebuilt, and when she had surgery.

Mine has only been off my finger for when I had surgery, and when I had it fixed. Our son was a pitcher and playing catch with him once he hit high school made my ring oval not round.

Mine only come off for service/cleaning and when my fingers retained too much water while pregnant. (Got stuck the first pregnancy--that was fun. Not.)

No surprise in popping the question if you have already let her pick the ring. Been 33 years since I had to deal with that. The guy picked the ring in those days, and hoped the woman said yes and liked the ring. Mine did both.

I picked out my own ring. We were both paying our own way through college and working full time, so DH had to make payments on it. I didn't know when he paid it off and picked it up, so I didn't know when he was going to propose. We had discussed getting married before that.

I'll take the better quality, better priced diamond any day of the week. I love Tiffany and own a multitude of pieces from them, but even I recognize I'm paying more simply because the pieces came from Tiffany & Co.

My husband Used to be a diamond wholesaler, and Costco was by far one of the pickiest over quality. So no i would not be offended by a Costco ring.

Not at all. We actually looked at the rings at our local Costco &, while there were some pretty options & they seemed high quality, we were shocked at how pricey they were. My DH ended up paying alot less money for a very high quality ring at an online site called BlueNile.com

As long as the diamond is EGL or GIA certified and comes with a certificate and the explanation of the 4 C's and where the inclusions are. These rings are easier to add to your insurance policy also.

Someone mentioned about a Jeweler being able to service the ring. Having the EGL and GIA inscribed number in the diamond enables you to go to any jeweler. You are able to verify via the microscope when you drop off and pick it up that it is your diamond by the laser inscription number that matches your certificate. You will also be able to verify your inclusions.

If you are going to spend money, it should be the best quality diamond you can afford instead of size.
I have seen many diamonds of rather large size and horrible quality. You can see the inclusions and graying color with the naked eye. If the large diamond is not cut properly, light will not show through.

I'm surprised I'm the only one that would be hesitant with a Costco ring purchase. I don't doubt they're high quality. But I wouldn't be comfortable spending that much money on a special purchase at a big box store. I'd much rather that large sum of money go to a local jeweler (to support the local economy) and have the customer care and attention you'd expect with a purchase like this. I for one need the ambiance of a jewelry store, I wouldn't want to be trying on rings while people push around their oversized carts filled with bulk toilet paper. I guess why I'm surprised is because we are Disney fans, you'd think Disney fans would demand more from a retailer than a JUST a quality ring at the lowest price possible.

I couldn't buy an engagement ring at Costo either. I wouldn't feel right about it. I think most women would prefer it not come from there, no matter what you are reading on this thread. Over the course of a lifetime the average savings would not matter, to me.

Because the Disney name is synonymous with things like detail, ambiance, and customer service. I personally prefer to shop at places that have "Disney-like" qualities.

That's the thing. Costco only sells $2000+ rings. I would never spend that much on a ring. So I'm already priced out at Costco anyway. I'm really only in this conversation because I had a different opinion than everyone else.

It should be a special once in a lifetime purchase, and should be treated like one. The same reason I wouldn't buy a Costco coffin.

To each his own. And isn't it the thought that counts? As long as it's a good quality diamond what does it matter where it came from? Maybe their prices are lower because you aren't paying for the ambiance. I for one am also annoyed when I go in places and they look at me like I can't afford to be there. Just because I am in jeans and a t-shirt does not tell you the numbers in my bank account.

I'm not lying, I wouldn't care if my ring came from Costco, or another budget friendly place. I'd think it was smart. I think traditional engagement rigs are stupid anyway but that's a whole different thread.
