If you only wanted a *few* more points...

O.k., wrong phrase -- if you could only AFFORD a few more points (we all want as many points as humanly possible! ;) ) is it worth it to do a resale, or even possible?

DH and I have a "livable" amount of points for our family right now, but it would be nice to have, oh, say, 25 to 50 more points. At that amount, would we do better to just purchase flat-out from Disney (assuring our use year, no closing cost, etc.) or get on a wait-list and see if anything pops up via resale? I am always scanning the resale boards but never see anything below 100 pts. My DVC person is foaming at the mouth to get us to add on... but I hate the thought of adding 25 now and thinking I could have gotten much more for less via resale. Ah, decisions, decisions.

Input appreciated!

I would just it get from Disney for all of the reasons you stated. Even if a small contract came up, what would be the odds of it being at your home resort with your use year?

If you'd be happy with the home resorts they are offering, I'd just buy from DVC for the 25-50 points. If you prefer a sold out resort get on the wait list and start looking for a resale. Remember that you will not be able to finance unless you buy at least 50 from DVC.

I believe one of the barriers to small point contracts is the title and transfer fee which I think is about $400. When you add that on top of the resale cost and any broker fees, there isn't much savings over going through Disney for a small contract that may not match the use year, etc. you want. Another big piece is whether you want it at your current resort. Good luck.

Thats right Captain M, by the time you add closing costs small resales are to expensive. I went through the same thing. I wanted OKW (home resort) but settled on VB with $15 per pt off for MB. We bought 60 pts. for $3900 (before increase). For the same pts. at OKW I would have had to get it for $58 per pt. (not likley) +/closing to match the deal. Granted I had to give up 1yrs. points but I bought it in Nov. 2002 so I will still get my 2003 pts. Most resales already have the current use yr pts used anyway.
Also VB made sense because we spend 4 to 5 days there every yr.

I purchased my original contract resale. We got a great price, but the transaction was delayed because of probate (the prior owner had just died.) I did my add-ons through Disney because I wanted it to be quick, painless, and reliable. Also with saving closing costs, my prices were quite similar to what we'd have paid resale.

We bought a 50 pt OKW resale. Paid too much but I really wanted the 50 pts and was not interested in BCV or HHI. Got my Dec UY. I'm happy!
