I just want to know what makes it a great place to live? I was just curious about other places. KC is a fine place nice neighborhoods, friendly people great BBQ.

Low crime rate, good roads, great entertainment venues through Indiana University Broadway Show's,etc.Decent electric and gas rates and plenty of good clean water.Lot's of nice parks and plenty of great fishing and boating areas. All this in a small city of less than 100,000.Nice people who get involved in trying to make it a better place to live each day.Bloomington is a place where folks say hi and give you a smile as you walk down the street if they know you or don't know you.You can walk any street in Bloomington day or night and feel safe. Ok I will shut up::yes:: :wave2:

Norwalk Calif..
20 mins from the beach, 1 1/2 hrs from the mountains, 1/2 hr from
the movie making capital of the world!
It's a great place to live!...

I live in Southern Maine and would not want to be any place else.

Close to Beaches, Lakes, Mountains, less then 2 hours to Boston. Summer is hard because so many people vacation here so getting a spot on the beach requires us up and on the road by 7:30 am but my girls are real beach troopers LOL.

crime, we do have but not as bad as other places

I love Maine AYAH

Well let's see, Minnesota was ranked #2 for 'most liveable state' this year, but was previously #1. I have yet to figure out why :rotfl:

Living near the city is nice...there is plenty to do, and the arts are a big thing around here as well as recreation. We have some great sports teams (GO WOLVES!) and the housing is somewhat affordable I guess. We moved here from a much smaller area where housing was way more affordable so we thought it was expensive here, but there are areas on the east coast, and California that are MUCH higher.

BUT, the dang weather kills me every year. This year we had three days in a row of THIRTY BELOW ZERO

Brr! I love snow up through about New Year's, but then I'm ready for it to stop, and we usually get it up through April....this year is not in the norm as it has been 60 degrees! The only thing that I don't like about Minnesota is the weather....and someday we'll move :teeth:

I like having four seasons. I have lived in milder or more extreme climates where there is not much change. I guess I enjoy identifying each time of year by the weather!

I'm not much on big cities - but I like living close enough (20 miles) to Spokane to get what I need.

Finally, I have to have mountains and trees around me - guess that is a reaction from those years I lived in North Dakota!

After 21 years of moving with the Air Force, this is the first place that feels like home.:)

Close to mountains and the beach

4 seasons, but no real extreme temperatures

Green, green, green trees everywhere!

Friendly people

No sales tax (but watch out for the property and income tax!

Portland, OR (about 15 minutes from me) has all the benefits of a big city, but without seeming big. Beautiful waterfront, clean downtown, lots of shopping, arts, entertainment, etc. I love it here, and I spent the majority of my life in California (a paradise to some)

Don't like where we live in NE Ohio. Thats why we are moving to Florida

,snow, potholes, scrapping windows, etc. We are 1 hour from Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Even in the summer we are lucky to have 10 sunny days during June-July-August. It is either overcast, cloudy, or raining.

You can't beat the Italian restraunts, food, etc in our area though.

I actually moved here from Western Pennsylvania 3 years ago and I absolutely LOVE IT! Here are my reasons:

1. I can still see 4 separate seasons without having to wade through 5 feet of snow or melt in 100+ degree temps every day.

2. There are a HUGE number of restaurants, shopping malls, stores, health clubs, schools, etc.. all within our county (Harford) yet the county is still highly rural in many areas. So we get the best of both worlds. We can go out for dinner or shopping with a 2 minute drive South or hiking and climbing at a State Park with a 2 minute drive North. It's GREAT!

3. We are 1 1/2 hours from Philly, 1 1/2 hours from DC, 20 minutes from Baltimore, 3 hours from Ocean City, 2 1/2 hours from Atlantic City, and 15-20 minutes from the Chesapeake Bay. Very centrally located. (and 15 hours from WDW :( )

4. Very family centered community. The general population of the community is families and younger generations. Very active area!

5. The RAVENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMGoodness, I have to round up all the Chicag othreads here on the DIS and make a montage. It is a great city!!!!!!

From where I live I can get to any one of 4 pro sports teams in just less than an hour. I can get to quite a few serviceable airports in less than 2 hours (DTW, TOL, FNT, LAN, MBS). I can get to some fun trail riding (w/mountain bikes) in about 10 minutes, with other great trails a few hours away. Also, 1/2 of my relatives live within a 45 minute drive.

That said, I would move to Phoenix, AZ in a flash if I was ever offered a transfer there. The other 1/2 of my relatives live in the Phoenix area, the weather is wonderful (yes, even on the 100+ degree, low-humidity days) and there are many places to ride a mountain bike.

I have lived in many places, but right now it's West Point, Utah and it has been my favorite place by far. That's if I don't count Germany;) It has VERY low crime, great schools, very friendly people and beautiful four seasons. There are also many great outdoor activities, all snow sports, hiking, boating, camping. Its great.

Military guys will do it for me! :teeth: However, I suppose I should give you a few more reasons, not that they matter to me. ;)

45 minute drive to the beach
about an hour or so to the mountains
Military guys!!!!
Williamsburg
Busch Gardens
relatives within driving distance
I get four seasons again...yea! Yea for three of them any way.
Military guys!!!!
I have an oak tree in my backyard. Haven't had one in 15 years.
I have a cherry tree out the side entrance.
The sound of military jets flying. :)
Did I say Military guys yet?

I've only been here a month. Give me more time. ;)

I have to second the military guys. See how cute my hubby is now? You should see him in his uniform. Hubba Hubba! :earseek:

See how cute my hubby is now?

Yes! I did! I saw your post on another thread and when I saw that photo of him, I was hoping he was a SINGLE dad, LOL! Your dd is about the same age as mine. Maybe you should put yourself in the photo, too.:D

London Ont Canada the most conservative city in Canada. Lots of trees great parks and friendly people. My only gripe is it is way to small just over 330 thousnad people I have lived here all my life and need something bigger like Toronto Montreal or Vancouver. I love the winter so it rules out Vancouver I have to have snow in the winter and especially for christmas. We have a great concert and events venue in the John Labatts Centre great place to watch a concerts or hockey game and we have some great restaurants here also. We are a little to conservative though we have the highest population of retired and non retired money earners in Canada all of them are also University of Western Ontario grads and alumni the university is in Lonodon. We have great schools and great shopping with the exception of the fact we do not have a Disney Store.

The Front Range of Colorado is a great place to live (Ft. Collins, Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs).

Good schools, low crime rates, sunny weather most of the time with a big snowstorm thrown in every once in a while, great access to year-round outdoor activities in the mountains and beyond, good sports teams to follow, lots of great entertainment at the Pepsi Center and Red Rocks, etc.

Best of all - we've met wonderful people from all over the world in the 19 years we've lived here.
