I'm late to the party but so disappointed in the casting. I don't know why, but I can't stand Katherine Heigl - like skin crawling. I really don't feel that way about many actors, but something bugs me about her. Besides that she's not right for the role. And an Irish Joe Morelli? Say it isn't so!
Ranger is very different from my mind's eye, but I'll see if his performance works before I judge that one.

I'm a few books behind, and I can't remember book 8 - off to look up a summary...

I can't wait for this book! I have been looking for spoilers, but found none!! I remember I read a review for 17, I think, because someone had an advanced copy and read it before it was released. no such luck for this one!

I follow JE on facebook, and she released a small snippet from the first chapter. It didn't reveal much though.

I'm going out on a limb here.....so much has been made over and over that Morelli does nothave a cookie jar.

So one of two things is going to happen......
1) either Steph is going to go to Motrelli's house one day and he's going to have got a cookie jar to impress her or

2) one day, she's going to see a COOKIE JAR in Ranger's condo.

I just can't wait to see which one. What do you think?

Just watched the trailer - doesn't look too bad - although in my mind and when I read the books - The Rock will always be Ranger!

I guess when I read the books, I always was thinking Shemar Moore would be Ranger. I think it's because every time they said Ranger flashed his 5000 watt smile....I was just thinking he looked like Shemar Moore..

Having watched the whole Rescue Me series recently on Netflix, I couldn't be happier with the casting of Daniel Sunjata as Ranger! I think he's perfect.

I also think Shepard will be good. The rest I'm not so sure about, but we'll see. It's hard to be happy with a movie made of a series where we have imagined the characters for so long! There's just no way to live up to the imagination.

I just can't wait to see it though.

I watched Rescue Me before I read the Stephanie Plum series, so in my mind Ranger was always Daniel Sunjata. The Rock I think is slightly too old for that character. I think he would make a great Tank.

I admit to never considering Katherine Heigl for the role of Stephanie. To me, she was always a young Marissa Tomei (who again is too old for the role). Lulu I imagined as Mo'Nique but I too think Shepard will work well. I'm not familiar with the actor who plays Morelli - he doesn't look like what I imagine. I saw Jon Hamm, th actor from Mad Men in that role. Connie I pictured as Leah Remini (again, maybe too old for that role).

Since the series has spanned a few decades those we thought were suitable for the role no longer work. I know everyone wanted Sandra Bullock for Stephanie but Sandra is nearing 50 and just would not work in this role any longer. I think Janet Evanovich had SB in mind when she wrote the first book but now so many years have passed a new actress had to be cast. KH is a competent actress, I think she'll do well. Just have to picture as a brunette, and I hope they make her a little less beautiful. I picture Stephanie as cute, not beautiful.

I wish this were a movie - Does anyone know if there will be a movie? Ohhhhh, who do you think would play Stephanie? Joe? Lula?

Which book is your favorite? Have you read them all?

...I am up to Book Nine....I couldn't stop reading them all summer!

Have never watched Rescue Me, so maybe Sunjata looked better in that one, but he was in a couple of made-for-TV movies based on Patricia Cornwell (Scarpetta) books-- didn't like him at all. It's funny, but I envision Ranger to look kind of like a taller, more buff Ozzy from Survivor. Beautiful eyes, longer hair (until the later books), more slim and wiry than muscular (although the Rock is one of my favorite fantasy men, not who I see for Ranger). Don't know Heigl at all -- what series is she in? I don't watch it, I know that -- but she looks pretty good in the trailer.

Rescue Me had it's final season this fall, but yes I would absolutely recommend it. It's produced by Dennis Leary and Peter Tolan, who usually make top quality shows. Sunjata plays a Puerto Rican firefighter - very believable (and smokin' hot! )!
