If you have email with Hotmail...or Facebook.

BEWARE...

It is a complete nightmare if your account gets hacked.

I would recommend that anyone still using Hotmail make sure your secondary email address is one that you still have access to. If you are like me, then you may have an old work email address as your secondary - and if so...you are totally screwed if you need your password reset.

For Facebook make sure you have a cell phone linked on your FB account so that they can send a password reset there, if needed, too.


Someone took over my email AND Facebook account and I have not been able to get either of them back - this started on Friday. They changed my password to both and my security questions.

Hotmail (Windows) has no one to call for help - they just have this horrible website that no one apparently really checks.

Maybe someone will read this and update your secondary email so this doesn't happen to you.


Has this happened to anyone else? If so...how was it resolved?

Did you have your FB account on Friends Only or Friends of Friends?

This just happened to a friend of mine so I am nervous.

My Hotmail account got hacked. about 3 weeks ago.

Not my facebook account- although I immediately changed the password on it- and several other places I go.

I followed the instructions on the microsoft site- emailed and exactly 72 hours later I got my email back with instructions on how to change the password- and I was back in.

Another thing that was a relief to me- the only emails that it appears they "read" were replies to their email. So they weren't opening things from my bank or shopping ones-

Hoping you get your email back. And your facebook too! Are your friends getting things from your "page" from someone else? or was it just a computer generated lock- I believe my account was computer hacked.
Sorry it sucked but I did get my account back.

I have both and while my Hotmail so far is fine (*knocks on wood*) I did get notice from FB when I tried to log in earlier this week that someone had tried to access my account. I swiftly changed the password to something more complicated
