If you have breakfast in your room, what do you eat?

One of the ways we're saving money on our upcoming trip is to have breakfast in the room (we will have a refrigerator and coffee maker, but no microwave or stove).

I've thought of some things that appeal to us in the morning, but I'm wondering what other options are out there. Below is my list; what would you add?

  • Yogurt
  • Granola
  • Bread, bagels or English muffins
  • Peanut butter
  • LARABARs
  • Fruit

Pop Tarts (we eat them just out of the package normally so no toaster needed.)
Cereal
Instant Oatmeal (use hot water from the coffee maker)

We don't eat breakfast too often when we're in Disney but these seem like easy things you could do in the room.

the kids like peanut butter on graham crackers :)
you could get the single serve cereals and then by a quart of milk somewhere. Muffins work well so does oatmeal. We usually eat a big breakfast at Shoney's before heading to the parks. then maybe just have a snack between lunch and dinner because we are too full to eat lunch anyways and that saves us money. I tried getting the free breakfasts of juice/ fruit from the hotel and brining it into the room to eat it. with 3 kids and 2 adult all to eat and get dressed it just wasent working for us . hope this helps

String cheese and hard boiled eggs work well. We buy some cinnamon rolls and having fruit, a bread, and a protein seem to work well.

We did yogurt, fruit, mini-muffins, and breakfast bars (kelloggs 100 calorie fruit crisp bars or nutri-grain bars). I like the bars and mini-muffins because you can travel with them as well (my daughter can take an hour to finish a bar!).

We get a bag of bagels, cream cheese, maybe a tomato or some sprouts and lox (smoked salmon). We call it our 'room service breakfast' (because it is what we always order for breakfast if we are staying somewhere room service is available, lol). Filling but not heavy and marginally good for you, too. :thumbsup2

That was my first thought too. Or you could do a PB and banana sandwich on whole wheat bread. My family would never survive if I tried to feed them a pop tart or granola/nutrigran bar for breakfast.

The kids like to eat poptarts but we usually bring bagels for ourselves. I like to put a little peanut butter on mine.

It is interesting how many of us pop in with the same topics... I was just about to post asking for some carry-on friendly breakfast ideas!

We're going for 3 nights on a shoestring in May for the GS 100th and I'm thinking packing breakfasts would be an easy money saver. The catch is that with such a short trip we don't plan on a grocery delivery, and since SW doesn't fly non-stop from here to Orlando we go carry-on only. So I'm trying to come up with foods that we can carry past security that would make decent breakfasts. Neither of us are big breakfast eaters and we'll get a mug to share plus I'll be packing my favorite tea to make in the coffee pot, so we just need a little something for a morning snack to start the day.

Right now, I'm thinking:
fruit leather
granola bars
turkey jerky
baby carrots with single-serve ranch dip cups (under 3oz and packed appropriately)
blueberries (frozen at home to serve as a TSA-friendly ice pack)
string cheese

Any other suggestions?

We took poptarts, granola bars, banana nut muffins, peanut butter crackers and fruit cups. I also took different flavors of goldfish and the Jif to go peanut butter cups.

We're taking the basics.

Pop Tarts
Peanut butter
Jelly
Bread
Bagged cereal
Those little packs of cheese and crackers with a spreading stick
Nabs

And gotta have Nutella. They make it in small packs like the Jif To Go packs now.

On our first trip we did Pop Tarts and Nutri Grain bars, but I quickly found out that we have to have some protein and fiber (and less sugar) in our breakfast or else everyone will be feeling hungry again by the time we get into the park. Now we do things like string cheese or sliced cheese with triscuits, peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat bread, whole wheat bagels with cream cheese and a slice of deli ham, higher-fiber cereal with milk and a handful of nuts.

Rice Crispie treats, Pop Tarts, Little Debbie donut sticks and honey buns.

:sad2:

Seriously, if you feed your children this in the morning they're just going to crash after a few hours and be cranky.

Just make sure your breakfast includes protein and high fiber and some calcium. This will keep the whole family satisfied longer than sugar-filled carbs and you won't have hungry cranky kids or adults in an hour.

We usually bring greek yogurt, hard-boiled eggs and Kashi cereal in the individual bowls. I pick up milk in the food court or I bring Soy Lite Vanilla milk. Some fruit is good too, especially bananas, berries and apples. :thumbsup2

I'll pack some poptarts and muffins for the kids ....and probably some organic milk boxes. Last time I packed some cereal, bought some milk and they had some cereal. I don't know if I will this time, though.

I'll probably pack some bagels and cream cheese for DH and myself.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I will try to give my family a balance of proteins, carbs and healthy fats in the morning. I'm definitely not giving my son (OR my husband, for that matter) nothing but sugar for breakfast.

Muffins &/or pastries (pref. with nuts), cold cereals, fruit that doesn't need to be cut/peeled, milk and orange juice, and some smoked deli meat, usually ham. Yogurt works too, but no one in our family really likes it very much.

FWIW, I don't eat breakfast in our room to save money, we do it to save time. Food courts are a zoo in the morning before the parks open.

I'm not sure if this is frowned upon but we have stopped and bought a cheap crock pot and made breakfast casseroles before. It 's nice to wake up to the smell of a hot, hardy breakfast.

That is one of the reasons I eat in the room, as well. I also like the portability of some of the previously mentioned items. I'll eat while waiting in the bus queue.

I've carried on bagels, poptarts, and Cliff bars with no prblems from TSA. If a refrigerator and car are available, we will purchase fruit, juice, water, snack crackers and yogurt. I'll have to look into small peanut butter and nuttella containers for an upcoming trip. I'll be traveling with just a carry on.
