... by ANYONE except a member who has an active "Points for Rent" or "Reservation for Rent" thread that you have posted on or otherwise contacted yourself, please let any of the Rent/Trade Moderators or me know. Please forward the PM or email.

Unless you have posted in a rental thread or have contacted a member with an active thread on the Rent/Trade Board, contact by anyone offering a rental in any form is in violation of DIS policy.

We had a few contacted in this manner several months ago and it has begun again recently. Please let us know if this has happened to you.

Somebody called a couple of weeks ago and asked if we were "still interested in renting our points." They really insinuated that my husband had initiated the whole thing.

My gracious, we stay in borrowing status, and have gone to booking trips on our AP rates...I told them NO and hung up the phone.

I'm rather sure hubby did not contact them about renting the points.

Such phone calls are likely not related in any way to the DIS. DVC ownership is a matter of public record, and there are companies that use those records to contact DVC Members.

What Doc is referring to is DISBoard members contacting you through our DISBoard Private Messaging (PM) system or DIS email. Under our board rules, you should have initiated any such contact, either by replying to a specific Points for Rent thread, or contacting a DVC Owner. If you replied to a Rent/Trade board thread, you should only be contacted by the DVC owner that started the thread. Some people have been contacted through the DISBoard system without initiating that contact.

We are still getting complaints about some who are trying to bypass the DVC Rent/Trade Board by soliciting renters via PM and email.

If you have been contacted about renting from someone where you did not initiate the contact by responding to a thread on the Rent/Trade Board (either by posting, PM or email), please forward such correspondence to me or any of the Rent/Trade moderators.
