If you have a cold, will they let you cruise?

I'm sure you will be cruising............. it's not like they subject you to a physical before you board. :D

If you were obviously VERY ill at check in, then they might stop you from boarding.

Have a great trip !!!!

When we checked in for our cruise in Sept., the woman helping us asked if anyone in our party was sick. They also gave us a sheet asking anyone in the party with flulike symptoms not to board, and it said they would help reschedule the cruise. Hope you all get better.

They are asking about people with vomiting, loose bowels etc. A common cold is nothing to be concerned about.
On a side note, as I teach preschool I am submerged weekly in a petrie dish of germs and get many many many colds, I found this stuff called Zicam that really works, it comes in predosed qtip like thingy's and if I start using it the first sign of a cold I swear it is gone in a matter of a day or two, the stuff is not cheap but works great!

Good luck with your cold.
I know how miserable they can make you feel.

My RN son-in-law swears by that Zicam Ann!
For myself and DH, at first sign of sniffle or any exposure we take the supplement 'Echinacea' which supports and strengthens the immune system. Have been doing this for over 10 yrs and have had much success. Also, hot Herbal teas are great. My doctor recommends Saline nasal spray to keep the passages open.
::yes::

We are DEFINITE Zicam users here in our house! I think we have stock in their company! LOL It is amazing if you get it in your system early enough! Usually at the very first signs of a cold such as sore throat or sniffles but you can use it! They now have different ways to get it as well as the qtip type they have a nasal spray, an oral mist, a rapid melt and a chewable which with kids is awesome! It is a little pricey but we swear by it as well. We have found it at Costco, Walmart, Albertsons (might be local I dont know) and Walgreens! We get the spray for about 8 dollars but it will treat several colds! Basically it is just zinc but it does seem to work great and it seems to clear out a stuffy nose pretty quickly! It is homeopathic and wont make you drowsy and isnt just a cold "mask" it actually helps reduce the length and severity of a cold. I have several of my friends who work for Delta as flight attendants and they swear by it. YOu can call their 877 number and find out where they sell it as well. Here is their number

1-877-942-2626 (877-ZICAMCOLD).

Hope this will help and you will get better soon! Have a good trip!

My DH swears by Echinacea...he took it when we were starting to get sick. Did I take it? Nooooo. And, who's the one who is sick right now? I'm bummed and my trip is a couple weeks away! Hope you feel better soon. Enjoy your cruise!!!

Do what you can to clean it up before you go - I do recall someone on the Magic cruise saying that they ARE screening people at the check-in and if you exhibit symptoms, you're going to be 'offered' a resort stay with expenses covered.

With that, really hope you feel better.

Steph,

Glad you are feeling better!! That stuff goes everywhere with us as well...winter, spring, summer whenever, wherever we go it goes with us!

I hope you feel great on your trip!

Heidi

glad you're feeling better Steph, now get packing!!! not much time left until you're cruising!! :teeth:

I never heard of this stuff before but I am going to go get some!

Last month on our cruise we were lucky everyone was healthy. They did give us a paper asking if anyone in the family had a cold and if so, they would like to make other arrangements with you (in other words, don't get on the boat).

So try to take all your meds before getting to port so you don't show signs of a cold. It would be terrible to miss a cruise over a small cold!

I haven't heard of anyone not getting on the ship (being turned away) yet. But then the season is just starting so we may start to hear stories.

I am going to Walmart this morning to try to find this stuff! I don't cruise for 11 months, but it would still be nice to NOT have to deal with a cold this winter! I hope it works for us!

I'm SO glad Sheph is feeling better!
We cruised in Oct. and they DID ask you if anyone in your party was sick.

All posters who have never heard of Zicam --
the trick is to take it the SECOND you feel you are getting a cold and then to take the ENTIRE course (I think it's 48 hours AFTER symptoms have gone away).

Has anyone tried to new premedicated swabs?

Westjones, thanks, I think it might have been you that posted about that last time.

Now I would say this- unless they're a DISer, you're probably not going to hear about people being turned away. Disney is very efficient about making such things go smoothly. And I think having the sick being turned back is a good thing. You need both a good offence in screening people visibly sick, and a good defence in doing lots of handwashing and bringing your own hand santiizer with you. As these kind of germs are very contagious.

Thanks for the tip! When we went on the land/sea in April, my kids had just gotten over the cold and I had gotten the sinus part. We tried for days before we left and then the whole time we were at Disney World. The plane trip was murder. Well the day we left for the cruise, I was in a panic. They handed out all the papers and told us if we had flu symptoms, that we could not go. Well I was going thru boxes of tissues an hour and was on a bus with all these people, I was afraid they were going to make me get off. Sars was happening at this time too! Well they let me on no problem and the next day I was in so much sinus pain. I went to the medic on board, terrified I would be put in quarantine. She said no problem, could tell it was a sinus infection, gave me medicine and I was on my way in a couple of minutes.

So if you are still sniffling, you should be ok.
