which one would you go with?
Me, DH, DD (3YO), and potentially grandparents. Not sure exactly which days they are joining us yet but we are well within our 180 day window so I'm grabbing reservations as fast as I can :hyper:

Not really worried about the food at either place - we'll all be fine - but of course we'd prefer GREAT food!

I have heard that you can stay after the luau and see the fireworks from the beach - yes? no? worth it? We'll be at CBR but grandparents are likely staying off property - will they be allowed in at all?

I was thinking we could do a pony ride for DD before the HDDR... currently have it scheduled for our last night.

I think we can really only swing one of these so if you have opinions on either with a 3YO please share!

We have done the luau twice. We have done HDdr about six times. Although our trips were mostly with different configurations of people, we have repeated hoop do do because people really enjoyed it and want to repeat. I also think the Luau is more affected by the weather while HDdr is totally indoors. The humor in both events is kind of corny but fun.. I would say the food is about the same. I liked both, but if someone offered me tickets to either one for tonight, I would pick HDDR.

Hoop dee doo 100%. I have done both, but we love the hoop dee doo. I ve done it 4 times, and plan to again next year.

Last time we did it with a 3 year old, two 2.5 year olds and a 15 month old. The kids loved it. Its super entertaining, the just clapped and waved their napkins along, we didnt have any issues. My oldest daughter always refers to it as "her" hoop dee doo.

Both shows are good, but I prefer the food at Ohana. I like fried chicken and ribs, but HDDMR cuisine wasn't special.

Both include beer at no extra charge!

Any idea on how to make the Ohana dinner extra special? We're doing it in September but haven't before!!

OP was asking about Spirit of Aloha dinner show Luau, not 'Ohana.

That being said, 'Ohana is an awesome meal and special in and if itself. Not need to attempt to plus it.

Without a doubt HDDR!!!

I would never do the Luau again. Very disappointing show, view and food. I think little ones would be very disinterested except for a few of the dances.

Our kids even said they wouldn't mind doing the HDDR again on the same trip!

Unless things have changed we watched the Electric light parade on the beach at HDDR after the show and it was one of our best memories of the trip. the show, sitting on the beach after and talking and watching the water parade, very nice evening.

Awesome, thanks everyone! HDDR is set for our last night - unable to add the grandparents so far, but we've got time and very understanding grandparents :-). I cancelled the luau in favor of a nice dinner at CSR and some pool time!

I think I'm a bad Disney nerd. Apparently I saw the Spirit of Aloha dinner show (or whatever name it had back in 2001), but I've been erroneously calling it 'Ohana for years. I guess I need to go back and re-educate myself. :)
