Last time we were in WDW in '07, we saved some dining plan credits and went to dinner at a restaurant that required 2 table service credits per person... Yachtsman Steakhouse. It was excellent and well worth it!

Next trip we may do the same and try another 2-credit restaurant. For those of you who have tried a few, do you have a recommendation? It would be two adults and 2 well-behaved teens, and we're not looking for anything stuffy or pretentious, just a pleasant experience and high-quality food!

Jikos, California grill,..... If you like a nice view of the MK fireworks with a nice glass of wine I would suggest Narcoossee's. You will get yes and No's on this one but I hit it on a good day. Plus there a little show on the lake before the MK fireworks. Food was great on the one and only visit. Therefore I am going again. California Grill has a great view also. In fact I suggest you try this one first for the view and the food. The Brown Derby is good if you get the fantasmic combination. They have there own section that you can go an hour or 90 minutes before and get a really good seat. I thought the food was good. Not as good as the first suggestions but good all the same. I ate at the Yachtsman Steakhouse also. I liked it but my first suggestions I felt were above that (My own opinion). The others I like because it gave additional Disney Attractions. That to me adds to the enjoyment of the meal. I am trying the Flying Fish this time to, and I heard its a great 2 credit meal. You may want to read some of the reviews on this particular restaurant as well as the others. I am not sure when you are going but California Grill should be booked the first day you can. Good Luck with your choices.

The California Grill at the Contemporary is a very worthwhile treat, and has a magnificent view. Narcoosee's at the Grand Floridian is also excellent. Of those two, I would personally pick the California Grill.

The only 2 credits we have ever done is Cindereall Royal Table and Coral Reef and I would not really recommend either one. I do have a freind that loves Norcoossee, they go ther every time they visit.

I have my favorite items at each but overall would rank them:

1. Flying Fish (tomato/mozzarella salad, mussels, scallops, char crusted steak, cheese plate, any of their trio desserts)

2. Citrico (crab gateau, pork loin)

3. California Grill (any flat bread, sushi, pork loin, cheese plate)

4. Artist Point (mushroom soup, mussells, buffalo)

5. Jiko (any flat bread, filet, fish)

6. Narcoosee (surf and turf-substituting scallops for lobster, almond cheesecake)

7. Yatchsman (seafood salad, filet, cowboy steak, lamb)

8. Brown Derby (haven't found anything worth repeating)

The best steak I've ever had has actually been at Flying Fish (not Yachtsman):rotfl: If I could plan my favorite meal it would be the cheese plate at California Grill, followed by crab gateau from Citricos, buffalo from Artist Point, then the almond cheesecake from Narcoosee. I'd make a trip to any of those restaurants just for those single items.:cloud9:

If you are on the regular dining plan, I wouldn't use 2 credits on any of the signatures if you are looking to get value from your credits. The only restaurant I could justify to use 2 TS credits on is HDDR. However, if I had to pick one signature it would be Jiko. The ostrich app (even though you would have to pay OOP for any apps unless you are on deluxe) could be one of the best things I have ever eaten. The BBQ short rib and spice crusted tuna are both amazing.

We often do this. And yes, I agree it is not the best "value" (money wise) of your DDP credits, but it works for us.
My choices would be first Jiko at the AKL. The lodge is worth seeing, the restaurant atmosphere is very nice, the food is delicious and the service is warm and friendly.
I would also recommend Narcoosee's at the GF. You can see the Electric Water Pageant and Wishes while you eat as well.
Enjoy.

There are so many restaurants and so many opinions here on the DIS, I'm sure the responses are going to be all over the board.

My personal favorite among the signatures is Narcoossee's. I love the location; it is a great view to watch Wishes over the MK in the evening. I have always had very good food and excellent service. The surf & turf is a great deal for 2TS. The lobster tail is good (not great), but the steak is melt in your mouth excellent. Narcoosee's is a must do for us and will be returning again our first night back on August 1st. :thumbsup2

I love Cali grill. The food is outstanding and the service is also very good. A plus too is being able to see the fireworks from the balcony at MK.

Wow - thanks for the suggestions! I like the idea of being able to watch the MK fireworks from Narcoossee's or California Grill.

At what time during the evening would I make an ADR in order for us to have time to eat and then watch the fireworks... I'm assuming it would require a later dining time so that it gets dark enough outside for fireworks?

It depends on the time of the year you are down there. During the summer months it usually starts at 10:00pm. During the fall around 9:00pm, and during the slow season in late fall and winter they may start at 8:00pm. During the slow seasons they also don't have the fireworks every night. If you are going during value season make sure they will have a display that evening.

As for what time to make your ADR; I would say anywhere from 1-2 hours before they begin. Below is a link with the fireworks schedule through January 2011.

I've eaten at every signature except Citrico's and without a doubt, our very favorite is Artist Point. The mushroom soup was so good that it made me cry.

That's how I feel about the corn and crab chowder at Jiko's! :worship:

That being said, I'd have to suggest Jiko - hands down. Narcoossee's has been hit or miss for us, but Jiko is always stellar. :thumbsup2

We just recently tried The Brown Derby for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The food was wonderful, the service impeccable.

The only 3 crediters we've eaten at on the dining plan is the HDDR, Luau, and the Brown Derby. We've speant the money to eat some of the others but I wouldnt spend 2 of my credits on anything but the HDDR and the Luau. (Each are great in their own way). The Brown Derby has great food, but I dont think its worth the 2 credits...

cali grill is the absolute best. Other good ones are jiko, biergarten, le cellier and cape may

Jiko.... I ate there when the company was buying :cool1:. Even though that tends to make food taste better, it was amazing food. We took our time and really enjoyed every bite. The food was creative, tasty and the space was wonderful. I wish I could go now....

flying fish on the boardwalk is very laid back but excellent service and food.

narcoossee's at the gf also good. we've taken a wide range of ages with various tastes in food (ages 5-50) and all had a good meal, relaxed but nice atmosphere.

california grill at the contemporary maybe a little "stuffier" than the other two i mention but a must do at least once. plan roughly around firework time or keep your receipt and go back up to watch...must do at least once.
