If you had to choose ONE character meal.......

Next trip is with my in-laws and they don't want to spend a lot on food. We've all agreed to do one character meal, and the rest counter service meals, or meals at our rental home (with full kitchen).

So, If you could choose just ONE character meal for your trip, which one would it be?

For a real Disney feel, I think you need to go with the classic characters for that kind of restriction.

Best meal with classics is Tusker House.

If you hate your inlaws, take them to Chef Mickey. :rotfl2:

I was actually thinking to do Tusker House.
I've never been to Chef Mickey's. Is it bad??

Our favorites were Garden Grill and Cape May. Tusker was disappointing. 1900 PF was good too.

Agreed. If it's only one meal, you want to get the classic characters. I would go with TH.

Tusker house was our best character breakfast this trip. Yummy food. Mickey waffles. And first in line for the safari.

May I query as to why tusker was disappointing ?
Which meal time did you attend?

We went for breakfast. Mostly it was disappointing because it gets built up here as something really special and we had really special experiences elsewhere... but Tusker was just okay. The food wasn't *bad*, but it wasn't as good as other breakfast buffets. The characters were cute, but the interactions weren't anything special, just kind of rote. We had better character time and better food at... jeez, every other character breakfast we did. I'd rather do a PPO at a resort and then Uber down to AK.

I would choose Ohana breakfast for Mickey or the Akershus dinner for the princesses. They are both reasonably priced and good interaction IMO. We have done these with family and as a couple.

Personally, I prefer to go to the character meals where I see characters that are not everywhere in the parks. I enjoy 1900 Park Fare, 'Ohana, and even CP since Piglet is hard to find anywhere else. If I was going for the food I would definitely choose lunch at Tusker House.

I'd do chef mickeys. It's so Disney! The contemporary. The monorail wizzing by. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. The food is just so so. You just can't beat the atmosphere!

For classic characters in a very relaxed setting and with excellent breakfast food, I'd highly recommend Cape May Cafe at The Beach Resort. ::MickeyMo::MinnieMopluto:

An often overlooked gem among character meal offerings. And it's not too huge either and the characters take their time with the guests. I truly enjoyed it a lot! :smickey:

Never ate at chef mickeys-however been to the contempo cafe many times and there's always been a huge line for cm.
That's actually what puts me off-

Therefore; how long does it generally take to be seated past adr time?

I've always enjoyed CM's. :smickey:

The place is quite big and has a fairly good turn over, I believe. And great character interaction! pluto:

FWIW, we have enjoyed all of our character meals (usually do 5-6 per trip, one trip per year, x 10+ trips .... that's a lot of character meals :faint:). I guess we just like meeting characters and aren't picky (plus I admit to not being a good cook, so my family doesn't have too high of expectations, lol :rotfl:). Having said that, our must do every trip is Crystal Palace breakfast, pre park opening. Akershsus breakfast for princess interaction is great and we've always enjoyed Chef Mickey's, even though it doesn't get much love here. Good luck deciding:-)

What are your favorite characters? I would choose based on what characters you'd most like to see. We like 1900 Park Fare and Akershus for princesses, and Crystal Palace for Winnie the Pooh and friends.

I'm honestly not a big fan of Mickey and the gang (blasphemy, I know). I much prefer CP because Pooh is my all-time favorite, I love the chocolate mickey waffles, and you can't beat an empty main street and the feeling of having the park to yourself that you get with a PPO reservation!

That said, if you're looking for the classic characters, I do love the food at Cape May Cafe!

I would choose either lunch at Tusker House (mickey and gang) or lunch at Crystal Palace (pooh and gang), both great, breakfast you can get at home to save money or take a snack in the park. We do eat a couple of breakfasts, but normally its a waste, we are hungry again at lunch.

1900 PF used to always be on our list, but someone said they were there recently and the stepsisters were not there, which are the two characters we like the most.

My first thought was TH. We have enjoyed the lunch buffet there. this time we are going at 10:30 in hopes of catching both breakfast and lunch foods.

My other suggestion would be Garden Grill. It is great for character interaction. You feel as if you have them to yourself. The food (at dinner) is nothing spectacular though.

We have done them all, but if I only had to choose one it would likely be Crystal Palace. In Magic Kingdom and such a fun atmosphere. If I had little girls, though, I would likely choose Cinderella's Royal Table or Akershus, which are fun, too (my girls are older and I now have little boys so my perspective has changed). If I was only choosing one meal, I would probably choose something in the parks vs. in a hotel.
