So, 10 days/$300.
How would you do it? Borrowing is not an option.

(posting this on budget board too...hope thats ok mods)

What would you sell that could make that amount in a short time? I do Ebay but I guess I stink at it because I just can't find good stuff!!!! LOL

Ebay definetely!

You could hold a massive garage sale as well.

I'd probably either sell something I own via a garage sale, or possibly try and organize a "parents night out" babysitting where each family pays $40 and they get a night out and you watch their kids and have a pizza party or something.

I could probably sell all my CD's I don't listen to anymore and make at least $200.

(after I burn them to my Hard drive of course!) ;)

I know ebay would be the best way to go, but what to sell? I have virtually nothing good.
Ideas on that???

While ebay is RELATIVELY quick and easy, not sure you would be able to have all $300 in your hands within the ten days.... assume a three day auction starting today. Then when the auctions end on Monday, assume half of the people pay with Paypal. But the other half send checks and money orders. The checks and money orders arrive within 5 days. Now you are up to 9 days. But then any large checks would have to wait to clear. So while it is theoretically possible, it would be tough. And this is assuming you have enough "good junk" around that would bring in $300!! Not as easy as it sounds, unless you are willing to part with some really good stuff and possibly take less than full market value for it (you'd probably raise more with a 7 day auction).

Pawning would be an option. If you have a Discover card, see how much your current cash back bonus is. Look around your house and see if there is anything you bought recently you could return (unopened videos/DVDs, clothes with the tags still on, unopened toys, unread books). Sell something (clothes, toys) to a re-sale shop. Unlike a consignment store, a re-sale shop will give you cash up front for what they take from you. Just be careful, some of them are very picky. Anyhow, hope these suggestions are helpful......................P

You have more than you realize.

Outgrown childrens clothes, toys, etc.. do well.

Put all your already read books in a lot, and sell them (or you could try half.com but that could take more than 10 days).

You could also do your cd's.

You could also sell jewelry.

Garage sale would be how I would do it. Or I would sell my used cd, videos, games or systems at a "used store" like Slackers.

I agree with pjlla - ebay won't be fast enough for you.

I'd say a yard sale would probably be the quickest, but to have one tomorrow you would need to get it in the paper now so it is advertised tomorrow morning. I'd make it a two day yard sale. If you have some larger pieces of furniture you no longer care for, this is the place to sell them - put them on the lawn at your sale. I am looking at a couch right now that I don't like so I will probably yard sale it this year and I should be able to get $100 for it - it's in great shape, it's just too small for my liking.

Pawning is the quickest way, but you have to be prepared to pay high interest ($300 you'd probably have to pay back $400 in 30 days, can you really do that?). You could just sell the pawn shop stuff you don't want back - old VHS movies, DVD's, any working gadgets that you never use, etc.

I realize also that not everyone can do what we do, but my BF and I are very good at finding antiques, vintage guitars, vintage amplifiers, etc. and reselling them. So to answer your question, if we had to raise $300 in 10 days, we'd probably just take one of the many instruments we have and turn it for a quick profit.

Since it's spring - I would post fliers - especially in nice neighborhoods and see if someone would like some help with the yard. It's fairly easy to find someone to cut grass but almost impossible in some places to find someone to weed a bed and put out plants.

Also spring cleaning - windows, clean out garage etc. It might take a lot of chores and it would be hard work but I'm sure that there are people out there who would want the help.

There are some temp agencies that you could go to to obtain short-term temporary employment. My 18 year old did that and was paid within the week...$100/day! I'd check in your area and see if there are any agencies. Most areas (unless you're *very* rural) should have them. This way you're guaranteed the money! Good luck!

Sorry...guess I should have noted I am disabled so I really can't work. :(
