Do you still get benefits such as Extra Magic Hour? Due to Hurricane Omar we had to cancel our Westin St. John vacation at the last minute and we had to put our points into Interval. We put our selves on a waiting list for the DVC resorts that they had. We go to Disney just about every year but have always stayed on our own at a resort. Does it work different when you go through a timeshare exchange program? Sorry for the questions. I didn't know who or where to ask.
Thanks

Timeshare exchangers get all the normal Disney onsite benefits. DME, EMH, room charging, etc.

They do not get the DVC Member Perks, like pool hopping, discounted APs, dining & shopping discounts or free Valet Parking at DVC resorts that offer valet. (OKW and SSR do not have valet parking.)

I'm sure you know there's an extra $95 fee to DVC in addition to your exchange fee. Also, your chances of getting a 2 BR are very low, a 1 BR is variable depending on the time of year you are requesting.

Did you get St John thru a DVC exchange? If so, could you give us some details of your exchange? Room size, date requested, points required and such. Also, since the resort canceled your trip, did you get any of your money returned for the exchange?

Tom

Thanks for your information. I do know that the chances of getting in is very slim. I was told ,we have two years to use them, people were not able to bank there points yet for that half of that time. We have from now till the end of October 2010. While we are hoping for summer of 2010, we Didn't ask for any particular resort or any particular time frame. If we cant get in we will still go. Just trying to use our points so that we don't lose them. I wrote down a bunch of information on fees and such. It is still a lot less than paying for it out of pocket.

Sorry no, Our Home resort is the Westin on St John. It isn't through DVC. I am not sure about the points to get in there we have a set season but have no trouble booking outside that season. I was told that the attendance this fall/winter is down. We own a two bedroom bay vista villa. We did not loose any money or any points. The resort did not cancel we did the day before we were to arrive because the hurricane was hitting then. We were told we could rebook for another date but we already have plans and could not go back this year. We will be going back in 2009 and we have vacation plans for June 2009 as well. Instead of letting the week go we were able to put it into Interval. We have two years to use it.

Sorry if I am confusing you.

September is the best opportunity to get a successful exchange into top Caribbean resorts....Huricane Season as you found out.

LOL....crossing posts here. We own a three bedroom Bay Vista! When are you going in June? We will be there June 12-19 in 2009.

Ok, so they deposited a WSJ week in II for you. That is good and bad, depending on what you are looking to exchange into. Good becuase its a high demand resort, bad because of its trade demand you may not see mid-level resorts.

bad because ... you may not see mid-level resorts.

For DVC that won't be a problem---it's near the upper end of the resort quality scale.

Can you travel before Summer 2010? Could you visit 2009? If so, it wouldn't be bad to add those dates to your request, as well. Gives you another opportunity to use that deposit.
