If you fly and stay on site, do you carry on anything?

I am thinking of getting a small (21in) rolling suitcase to bring as a carry-on. I would put things that I would really miss if our luggage got lost, plus items we could use on our arrival day. (We would also have a computer bag, camera bag, and kids' backpacks with us.)

Basically I would pack 1 change clothes per person, bathing suits for everyone, pajamas, a travel sunscreen, the costumes I have to surprise my kids with for the week, pressed penny supplies, autograph books... etc.

The rest of our toiletries, clothes, sunscreen, etc I would pack, check, and let DME deal with. Everything but the camera bag will be left with the bellhop if our room isn't ready in time.

What do you do?

This will be our first time flying , but our carryon sounds like yours - minus the kids stuff

I do the same as you, bring a small carryon with essentials - especially a bathing suit because if you use Disney transportation, you don't know when your bags will arrive. It is nice though not having to wait for your bags and going right to Disney's transportation.

That's pretty much what I do too, but make the suitcase international size (20"). Some of those planes are tiny.

We pack most of the same things in a carry-on: a change of clothes & swimsuit for everyone, pajamas for the kids, sunscreen, essential toiletries, extra diapers, medications. Our flight usually arrives mid-afternoon so we want to be able to swim and also to get the kids ready for bed just in case the checked luggage takes a while to arrive.

We pack a carry on with the essentials depending on the plan for arrival day. I always try to book the earliest flight there so that we aren't wasting an entire day traveling, so we almost always head to a park before ever seeing our room. The bags get left with bell services. The carry on is usually the personal items we can't do without or replace easily if our bags get lost- meds, make up, phone/camera chargers.

I bring a book for the plane and my son's inhaler for his asthma. Nothing else. I don't worry about what if luggage got lost. I wear a t shirt and leggings with slip on shoes on the plane along with carrying my hoodie. We go in Dec or Jan and every time it is cold on our arrival day. But if it was warm, I could just roll up my leggings and I would be fine in MK which is where we head to as soon as we get checked in to our resort.

I put a days worth of clothes and toiletries in the carry on, my camera, ipod, chargers, etc. Anything I needed just in case I didn't get my luggage for 24 hours. Which actually ended up happening. We got to our room at 9pm and they didn't deliver our luggage as it was too late by the time it got there, and when we were leaving to make our early morning adr the next day I stopped at bag services and they said it was there and would get it to the room, we just took off right from there since I had enough stuff to get us through. :)

Like others, I pack anything I would need for the first 24 hours. One time (off site) our bags were delivered the next day by the airline because they got lost. We had everything we needed but the people we were traveling with did not and they were very grumpy!

Yes, always fly and always take a carrying on.
Roller has food snacks and a change of clothes......important things, but not vital. If plane is full, you could be asked to check your carry on.
I also always take my computer bag with the essential things that must stay with me, chargers, Kindle, meds, etc

We only carry on medications, valuables, and electronics (phones, tablets, camera & chargers). DH uses a back pack and I just use my what ever purse I am using at the time.

I bring my purse and a bag with necessary papers, usually a book and a change of clothes and pajamas. My DH brings the camera bag, and another with a book and extra clothes too. The girls all bring a bag with extra clothes, and things to do on the plane.

Staying onsite is irrelevent!! Always, always carry-on anything you need for 24 hrs!!!!
Meds, contact solution, change undies, maybe a set of clothes. For disney or vacation places I always pack my swim stuff too
besides bags getting "lost" or delayed you have flight irregularities. Cancelled, long delays or worse case diversions where you get there next day. We fly intl into MCO one year we were diverted to Miami and landed due to storms in MCO. Couldnt land and needed fuel. Honeslty thought we were spending first night in Miami. Thank God we were able to land, fuel and get back to MCO and land before crew reached max flying time. Which would have kept us grounded.

Carry on the stuff I don't want to chance losing (chargers, meds, one piece of medical equiptment, electronics, wallet, etc) and let DME handle the rest. I usually have a set of warm weather clothes and my park bag in my carry on so I get what I want and give the bell hop the rest (but I've been really lucky about having a room at check in).

I never carry all that stuff on board. My son has his backpack with his plane activities and I have my purse with my plane activities and meds. When taking DME, I pick up my bags myself. It's much easier than having to wait for them to be delivered.

Thank you all! We definitely have to bring some stuff because our flight gets in really early and we plan on swimming as SAB and then heading into Epcot. I was thinking of just shoving some stuff into a giant old diaper bag that I have, but then I thought a small roller would be much easier.

OP, it sounds good.

Staying onsite is irrelevent!!

Good point. But maybe that part really meant "and you don't have a rental car to pick up important things"?

When taking DME, I pick up my bags myself. It's much easier than having to wait for them to be delivered.

But what if the bags are lost/delayed by the airline? That's the important part, not the few hours normal wait for DME's luggage delivery.

24 hours of necessities and of course the swimming trunks. We get there at 11 each time and hit the pool or the waterpark arrival day. If the room's ready we have a short nap, drink a few Garden Grocer beers then hit the pool or waterpark. Then it's on to DTD for the one ADR we plan for DTD. If the plane's late then oh well, we're out $20. Nothing a few more beers and Yeehaa Bob can't solve!

I don't worry about it, bumbershoot. If that would ever happen, I would get a cab to Walmart and pick up a few sets clothing, no big deal.
