i know you probably can't give specific names of resorts, but can anyone tell me a website i can go to to find deluxe resorts or suites not on property? we still want to be close to disney. i have checked into a few of the ones mentioned on the disboards home page. does anyone recommend any of them? going next month with no where to stay yet.....i sure would appreciate some help. thank you

Staybridge Suites, Lake Buena Vista. It is located right at the enterance to DownTown Disney. It is the only place I have stayed off-site. Stay away from the Blue Tree Resort. I booked them once, and had so many problems with them that I ended up cancelling and booking at Staybridge Suites again.

How many people are going? We usually have 6 or 8, so we get a 2-bedroom unit, that comes with a full kitchen and 2 full bathrooms. Plus you also get a complimentary continental breakfast. :)

Marriott Residence Inn's have a nice 2 br unit that sleeps 8 with free hot breakfast.

There is one on Palm Parkway north of dotntown disney.

Best ot have a car if you're staying in this area.

we are staying off site in december because this will be my 3rd trip this year and we need to save money. we're staying in a condo that's 5 minutes from disney. it's a 3-bedroom, 2-bath for $109/night. can't beat that! of course i haven't been there yet so i can't say with 100% certainty that it's as nice as it looks, but the man that owns it is really nice and he's been very easy to deal with and quick to respond to questions. i've changed my dates twice with no problems at all. he has several condos in the same area:

we're staying in the "hemingway's animal kingdom" condo, but they all look nice. just thought i'd pass it along.

www.mousesavers.com
... has several recommendations. I have stayed in a few of the off-site hotels that they recommend and their info and opinions are always very accurate.:)

DU offers some great deals on off-site resorts Here!

thanks to all of you that took the time to respond. i will look into your suggestions today and try to book one as soon as possible.

Also check out the Orlando Forum here on the dis. You'll get the same type of post about Orlando/Disney area hotels.

I agree with going to check on mousesavers.com. It was through that site that I found Royal Plaza hotel right off downtown Disney, got a great "mousesaver rate" and we were very pleased with the hotel. Just a tip if you stay at any of the hotels there. Sometimes it can be a while for buses to come. We would walk to DTD and catch the regular WDW buses instead. They come much more frequently. Best of luck and have a great trip!!!!!

If you decide to do this, keep in mind that the Disney busses at DTD only go to the resorts now. You would have to catch a bus to a Disney resort, then get a bus there to one of the parks.

By "deluxe" resort, do u mean a full service/concierge/room service resort ? Or are you looking at timeshares ? Timeshares, most of the time, won't offer daily housekeeping or room service etc. Like I'm thinking Gaylord Palms when you say "deluxe " ? Maybe I'm off.....here's a link to some good rates there :

Gaylord Palms - DU - also has discounts for it - they are the sponsor here.
also Sheraton Vistana Resort

also like Cypress pointe - wouldn't call it deluxe - but definitely nice
find it here
www.hotelkingdom.com

sometimes www.skyauction.com has a timeshare in the area.

now this site is definitely more expensive -
www.condodirect.com

might try Bonnett creek - Fairfield or Wynham - Fairfield prices are lower - same place

it's called the villas at island club. i don't think it's a resort like some of the other ones where you have dining facilities and such. instead it's mostly just the condos. they do have a pool, jacuzzi, playground and volleyball court though. personally i don't care about the other stuff - as long as i have a kitchen to make breakfast in and i'm near disney, i'm good!

We stayed at the Caribe Royale last year, and got a queen suite with 2 queen beds for $89 per night. The pool was great, the rooms were clean, it was as nice as a deluxe disney hotel but so much cheaper and more room. The best part is that it was about half a mile from the parks and DTD. I would highly recommend it, we are staying there again in August when we come for our annual pilgrimage.
