If you do a gift swap at work

I was contemplating joining in on this year's gift swap party at work. Thank you for reminding me why I should just spend that $20-$25 on myself and get exactly what I want!
Exactly.

I've been lucky enough for the past few years to work with mostly men who don't seem to have any interest in Secret Santa or potlucks or anything like that. :lovestruc It's been absolute HEAVEN! :lovestruc

I'll gladly...HAPPILY!...ECSTATICALLY!...do the collecting for the boss's Christmas gift and go shopping for it if I never ever again have to deal with Secret Santa/employees giving each other gifts nonsense!

At my last job, my boss gave an employee a dirty baby diaper. Seriously. They had a good relationship and I suppose it was meant to be funny, but everyone in the office was shocked (and sickened!). It was all wrapped up beautifully in a lovely box with a huge bow. The smell made everyone run from the room...

That is totally disgusting.

Maybe it's just me but I feel this years crappy gift is from my employer. I'm a parapro at an elementary school and in the past they have always given the support staff(paras, secretaries, custodians, etc) a $15 gift card to a local store. Not a biggie but still it's the thought that counts. This year they decided that there would be a $3 fee to attend the employee Christmas party and in instead of gifts this year all support staff may attend free. I'm still trying to tell myself it's the thought that counts.

 As a fellow parapro I am so mad for you. OTOH, at least you USED to get nice gifts. ONE year (the first I worked) our boss gave us chocolate covered cherries. I don't eat them but it WAS a gift. After that they just started giving to teachers but left us out entirely. We are constantly asked to pay the same "petty fees" for paper goods for parties, refreshments for programs, etc.. that teachers do - and they earn almost 3 times what we do!

Exactly.

I imagine there is less Diva Drama, too. I wish we could dispense with the gift trading. I don't want to be the only stick in the mud so I go along with it but I could totally take $25 and use it on my DH or kids rather than buy someone I may or may not like something THEY may or may not like.

AMEN! I decided I am not going to participate this year. Just not worth spending the money and ending up with something you dont like or want, so I'll just watch.
