If You Disliked Boma ...

I had prime rib (my 1st time ever trying it) at Boma last year. I was surprised they offered it it in med. rare and med. well as most places only offer it in med. rare (which is why i never had it before), BUT since they had med. well I tried it. OMG it melted inmy mouth. I am filet mignon girl, but this was excellent. Not spicy at all. It was juicy..no fat at all, fork tender. I can't wait to go back. Boma is not a "spicy" restaurant like say a mexican place. It's not spicy hot. It does have spices, but different ones and more sweet. DH and I are Prilosec a day people as our stomachs are VERY sensitive to spices and coffee (which landed us on the Prilosec in the first place), we tolerated everything well. I didn't like everything they had, but there is so much to choose from you and everyone else will find several things you like. My then 9 yo DD and 2 yo DD liked it too (they tried the peanut rice, boboti, prime rib, etc. so they didn't have the normal kids fare). If you don't like it then just don't go back again, but you'll never know unless you try it!

Is it the exotic spicing of the food that is unappealing? I've read that some say the food tastes sweetly spiced, like cinnamon. Does that include the basics like prime rib? We're a family of four that includes two teens. Since we're staying at AKL I thought we'd give Boma a try, but not if we'll all be disappointed. And we sure don't want to end up having to eat off the kiddie section!

We didn't hate it, but we thought it was definitely overrated. We have eaten at some pretty good African restaurants here in L.A., so we were not that impressed with the offerings there. We found a lot of the flavors to be the same- lots of cinnamon and cloves. Most of the meats seemed plain, but the other exotic dishes didn't taste very exotic, because a lot of them had that same spice in them. My teens took one look at the food and decided to eat at the Mara instead. We're glad we tried it, but we definitely won't be back.

I really like it. It's on my list of places I go when I'm at WDW. I'm a pretty picky eater and found enough to keep me satisfied. I felt very brave there, trying new foods, and I suppose that's part of it's attraction for me. It's worth a try!

Going back Feb 26th can't wait. Love it there.

For us, it was just that it didn't live up to the hype. I'm not a buffet person, and - in the end - Boma is a good buffet. My expectations from all the hype was that the food would be on par with a decent table service restaurant and it wasn't (except for the soups - I though the soups were excellent). In my opinion, the night we were there the salmon was overcooked, the prime rib was too dry, most of the food was sort of lukewarm.

But if you are staying at AKL with teens, I'd give it a shot - with realistic expectations. It is certainly an EXTENSIVE buffet, you will find something other than chicken fingers to try.

I agree with those that said Boma's is overrated. We ate there last year (our party had 2 vegetarians, 3 meat eaters & two kids)

I didn't like the spices they used at all (very flowery, cumin tasting, some cinnamon).

There were lots of vegetarian choices for me, but I just didn't care for them. The only things I likes were the hummus and some stewed tomato thing. The one vegetarian soup was like pumpkin pie melted down - and I didn't care for it. They didn't have mashed potatoes like some people had posted but some sort of mashed grit type dish that tasted like water. All the salads looked good but had that funny flowery cumin taste.

No one thought it was that great, even the meat eaters were dissapointed. The desserts were nothing spectacular either.

I can't say I'm mad for trying it, just that I'll never ever go again. Just my opinion.
