I know, strange question but as I've mentioned before we are still up in the air about our resort. If we booked a resort and after check-in decided we didn't like it, would we be allowed to move to an upgraded hotel for the remainder of our stay if there were rooms available? Second part of the question - if they let us move, would we still be able to keep the free dining plan? This is for Sept 23-Oct 4 so not a tremendously crowded time. Almost every hotel has availabilty at this time.

One other question, if they say we can have connecting rooms and then don't deliver would we be able to upgrade for them? My Mother-in-Law may or may not be coming - she keeps changing her mind so that is why we would have connecting rooms - one of the kids would sleep in her room. Thanks for your help....

I'm sure if there were availability at your new resort of choice, you could pay the difference in room rate (if applicable) and Disney would work with you to move you and your family! I find Disney staff to be very accomodating!
Good luck with your resort choice and enjoy your trip :sunny:

You can absolutely change to another resort if you're willing to pay the price difference, but I'm not 100% sure you could take the free dining with you.

Also, those connecting rooms are only a request - they only "guarantee" them if you'll have children with no adults in one of the rooms. Since your MIL would be in the second room, I don't think they can guarantee it.

I am only going to tell you what info WE were given by CRO. If there is a PROBLEM with your room (their fault) they would try to negotiate a mutually satisfactory solution. That COULD include a different resort. If you CHOOSE to move, you could transfer your ressie to a different resort and pay the difference. If you do that, you can ONLY take the free dining with you if that other resort has FREE DINING ROOMS available. They only sell so many of those at each resort...they very carefully explained to me (not that I had asked) that if they let you book, say, POP because it is all that is available in your price range with the free dining, then arrive and switch (for whatever reason that is not necessary) to POR, it would not be fair to include the free dining because for however long, people wanting the free dining for POR for those dates have been told No.

The whole explanation was quite logical and made sense. So my very best advice to you is to book where you can be OK staying. Then, if you really cannot stand to stay there, plan to pay your dining portion.

Hope you love your resort and don't have to worry about it after all!

Why not change your ressie now if you think you will have a problem?

Two years ago we had a split stay between AKL and WL with AKL being 1st. We loved it so much that the day before we were supposed to switch we went and visited WL and were so turned off by the rooms that we went back to AKL and asked if we could switch from WL and just continue the remainder of the stay at AKL. We were allowed to do so since they did have the availability.

We did EXACTLY the same thing a few years ago!! It was when AKL had just opened and we stayed on the beautiful concierge floor, went to WL and asked to go back before unpacking!! Since then we have stayed at WL and loved it, and are planning to stay there over New Years.

We thought the WL rooms looked "dated" so I was glad to read on the DIS that the rooms were being renovated. I still want to stay there sometime. I love the lobby and the grounds. I just can't go from AKL to WL. :)

When CS first opened, we had ressies there. However, when we checked in, there were a few big conventions going on and the place was mobbed. There was a line/wait to get into the food court for lunch. We figured this wuld be horrible in the mornings. We made some calls and were able to transfer our ressies to POFQ (which we love). The nice part is that it was back in the day of Magic Kingdom club, and we had a special rate on the room. POFQ allowed us to stay at the discounted rate.

We did inquire about rates for deluxe resorts, but none of them gad discounted rooms available and the upgrade would have been a lot of money, since we did have a discounted room. I guess there wasn't a problem bringing over our discount, since we went from moderate to moderate.

I don't think I'll hate the resort, I think my MIL might. She might want to move up a category but she isn't willing to pay for the upgrade now for all of us and we can't afford it. But if she gets there and hates it she might be willing to move us all and pay for it. Then we have the extra added confusion of her maybe not coming, you see my dilemma? Thanks for the replies...

As another poster said, I think your risk is losing the free dining. Another resort may have rooms available but the rooms designated for free dining could very easily be sold out.

Sorry to intrude, just wondering when you switch your hotel after check-in, do you swich at the resort your going to, or the resort that you checked into?

When we switched, we called from our room to the front desk.

I first told the desk and they were very sweet about it, they called AKL for me. They actually drove us back over!

If your MIL can't ven decide whether or not she wants to go, why are you concerned if she will like a hotel where you'll be comfortable? I say book the rooms, and if she doesn't care for it, she will have to deal with it. It's your vacation, yes?
