The best rooms at WDW (IMHO) are the MK castle view and/ or lagoon view at the Grand Floridian. This resort never ceases to keep me in awe of its beauty/ peacefullness/ magic/luxurious/ decadent happy atmosphere
I think it depends on your DH's tastes and how much he like WDW. If you are trying to 'wow" him, and he already likes WDW I would go for Poly, CR, or AKL.
If he isn't too thrilled about going, I would probably stay at one of the values or one of the moderates so he would like WL more. If it were my husband, I wouldn't want him to make comparisons for the rest of the trip in case he loves the place you stay in the first night. For example, for my husbands first stay we are staying at AKL for the subtle "wow" factor.
If I were to ever get to go to the world alone with my DH and had the money
AKL Concierge level and would treat him to the sunrise safari on Sunday morning. If the money is a problem then I still would go to AKL (great hot tubs, they can be very private).
I would have to agree with you, stayed at AKL Concierge Level with wife and none of the kids and absolutely loved it; would stay there again in a heartbeat but would rather wait till construction is done so it does not take away from the morning views out on the balconey.
