In this era of Kindles, Nooks and other e-readers, I think a bookstore might be facing a shrinking market.

Yes so people will be ditching their used books and people that love books will want to buy them.

Yes, thank you! I really disagree that bookstores are a shrinking market. I don't have a Kindle or a Nook and spend at least 2 days a week in a bookstore. Plus I don't think anyone said these ideas were "for real"

Same here. I've re-started my "decorating notebook;" I had one years ago filled with handwritten ideas, photos from catalogues and magazines, and paint chip color combinations. I'm also pretty frugal, so I know I could help people stage well on a budget. I'm hoping to try it out on a few friends soon...maybe I can build up a reputation to actually do it.

I started my own business in June 2009. It is oil and gas/engineering related (not exactly spine tingling...I know lol). If I had my druthers I would have a greenhouse/winery/orchard thingy goin on I would eat every meal on my lovely terrace outside with a glass of my homegrown wine.

I would open an ice cream shop in downtown lexington, KY. 25,000 people leave Rupp Arena from various events at night, and unless you want to get drunk, there is nowhere to go.

As far as my business, I'd love to open a theater that plays foreign, independent & classic movies.

A drive-up convenience store. Imagine calling ahead on your way home from work when you need a gallon of milk, or something quick for dinner?

My main demographic would be the harried mom with 4 toddlers not wanting to lug them all into the store for 3 items.

I've always wanted a bed and breakfast, but during my masters program I did a business plan for and and realized it's not in my cards.

I've also toyed with starting a birthday party business for kids -- planning around themes. When I had my daughter's Dora the Explorer party (complete with a Map event because "Swiper" stole the birthday presents, a homemade Dora-shaped cake, and sewn "Backpack" goodie bags with purple felt and the kids' names in gold glue), I had someone offer to pay me do do something for their kids, but I never followed up. I even had painted life-size pictures of the characters and hid them on walls throughout the house. First thing the kids needed to do was find all of the pictures and bring them into the dining room to decorate it for the party. It was a great time.

I'd also like to be a professional organizer (but I'd need to start at home!!).

In the future I hope to own a B&B. It is a dream of mine and DH.

We use to own a children's birthday party facility. It was a lot of work, a lot of fun but I had to stop due to a bad pregnancy, followed by my DS's premature birth and then sickness for the first 3 years of his life. I looked into starting the business up again last year, found a location and things didn't work out. but I just don't think I have it in me anymore. It takes a lot of stamina to entertain 20 kids 4x's a day for at least 3 days a week, and then deal with some crazy parents!



So, I started my own online retail business. It encompasses things that are very important to me. Kids, our country, and the environment. It is a baby boutique selling eco friendly, made in the USA items. I just started it so we will see how it goes. I would love to have a store front some day in our town.

I would love to do party planning. I think if it ever happened I would start with children's parties and then move up to weddings and corporate events. I love the planning more than the parties when I have them myself so I think it could be a good fit.
