If you could only give one photography/videography tip to someone going to Disney, what would it be?

Mine would be to take pictures and video of the things that are important to you. It's your kids, your spouse, and your friends that you'll want to see. Focus on those rather than postcard perfect pictures of Wishes or videotaping all of Illuminations.

That's kind of what I did on my last trip (and the trip a few months earlier to Disneyland - I don't have a single shot of Sleeping Beauty Castle!) I took almost no photos of the "usual stuff" because I could always find better pictures of those online. This was before the DSLR, of course - next trip I'll be taking pictures of every darn thing. :) I do plan on videotaping the MGM fireworks but for nearly everything else, there are videos floating around so no point in re-taking them.

My tip would be - buy more memory cards so that you can take all the pictures possible. You can't take too many vacation pictures, especially at WDW!

My tip would be to try to find the right balance between not taking enough pictures and taking too many pictures. If you don't take enough pictures then too many of those precious memories will be lost. My parents took us kids to DL three or four times and I think there are maybe two pictures to show for it. I tend to go the other direction and want to take so many pictures of my kids that it takes away from the special occasion. By lunch they are ready to throw my camera into the castle moat!

Take more photos, then take even more!
I have never come home from a trip thinking "wow, I took too many photos".

Take the ones of your ice cream sundae, and ignore the looks from those around you (a different thread). Take the ones of your room, your transportation, signs, anything... in ten years (ten weeks?) when my memory isn't so good I will probably be very glad I have a photo story to remind me of what we did. The cost of the memory cards will mean little to me then.

And of course, take plenty of photos of your friends and family, because you will *never* look at them later and think "wow, I took too many photos".

have fun. take what you *feel* you should take, but don't stress over what you *think* you should take.

I'm with that! Snap away on auto. get all the photos you can. The sorting out can come later. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

While I've never thought that I took too many photos, there have been times where I've thought back and decided that I spent too much time taking picutres and not enough time participating. There is always a balance to be had.

for me since I found out the sad hard way, take pictures of you and your family and friends. We took my dear friend with us and her family. It was her last trip. She died a few months later from cancer. I knew to take a ton of pictures with her and her kids and her mom....but never once gave any thought about the two of us.Also to have pictures taken of YOU! The photographer!

While you're taking those truely important pictures of family and friends, make sure you get in some of those pictures. On my last trip with 2500 pictures, I was only in a dozen or so.

Amen to this one! Both of my DS's are in the high school marching band. This year with my new Canon S3, I was busy taking pictures of their performance at every competition. Unfortunately, because I was so busy taking pictures, I never just sat there and enjoyed the performance! :sad2:

wondering if maybe taking some on p or some similar more auto program would help...since not as much thought is involved a quick snap would leave more time for other things...since I'm not the camera genius lots on here are i was contemplating doing that our next trip and leaving the shutter etc decisions for the things i want for sure or more artsy pics ... although some of the recently posted food pics are really nice so guess anything could be viewed that way

last vacation by the end husband just kept walking when I'd stop..guess he'd had enough of prolonged pauses every few steps :teeth: :rolleyes1

Don't forget about candid shots! :) Ice cream dripping down your face? *click*
