If You Could Design a Disney Resort....

The Taj Mahal is a great idea. And it should have WDW's best steakhouse;)

I'll probably get a lot of hate mail on this one, but I'd love to see an "adults only" resort. My husband and I just went for our first time without our kids and found that as we tried to sit at the pool at CBR, we couldn't get away from the screaming kids, the yelling, splashing etc. We certainly understand that it is a family place and we had our share of vacations there with our kids. And we didn't let it bother us or ruin out time. But as we walked around each night, we kept saying how nice it would be to have a place to go, if you choose, that only allows adults to stay there.

travelgoddess,
Thanks for agreeing with me. I didn't want people to get the wrong idea. I love kids. But it would be a nice option to get away and stay at a place without kids! My friend is going in September for her 25th anniversary and she is staying at CSR. She has asked for a room as far away as possible from everything!!

I like the Wizard of Oz idea and what about a resort with a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Theme...

I like the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. That sounds like it could make a pretty neat park attraction.

I think a walled medievel city a la Carcasonne in France would be amazing. Cobbled streets and old building like Paris in 'Hunchback' or the village in Beauty and the Beast. The hotel could be like Beast's castle, and the CM's could dress in the costumes of the period. The restaurants could be fairytale themed and the swimming pool could have a 'Knights, Princesses and Dragons' theme.

Here's a photo of the actual walled city in Carcassonne- there is a hotel there called hotel de la cite, which would be a good model. Robin Hood, Prince of thieves was filmed there.

My other idea would be a Treasure Island theme- imagine the themed swimming pool, the lake with a Pirate galleon, the rooms themed like the cabins of a pirate ship. Hey they already have the CM uniforms from the POTC ride at WDW!!

AHHH willy wonka and the chocolate factory themed hotel sounds scary. I saw this movie when i was young and it scared the bejezus out of me. I have never eaten a blueberry because of it. I got sick to my stomach from it and i cried and had nightmares. I still wont watch the movie and im 16 now! i would avoid disney if they had a hotel themed like that lol:earseek:

maybe an italian themed resort, with subtle pinochio touches a morrocan/alladin resort sounds like the best

Please forgive me for ressurecting a two year old thread, but the new Wonka movie brought new thoughts to light in designing a new resort...

Can you imagine a Disney resort themed on the new factory? I just wonder how you would do the boat transportation...

Theming: Transportation
This could be especially appropriate for preschoolers who just want to ride the monorail, the train, etc.

*On a new monorail circuit* (We are dreaming, right? ;) ) This resort is so special that it has monorail access to all four parks plus DTD. ;)

A huge lobby with glass elevators.

A train that makes a figure-8 pattern through the resort.

On a lake so water mice and boat rides are options.

Horse-drawn carriages would add to the atmosphere.

Special fireworks just for the resort.

Think we could fly if we had a little trust, faith, and pixie dust?

Two/Three distinct rooms - one/two for kids, one for adults - with a living area and small kitchenette. It wouldn't have to be much bigger than deluxe rooms are now to still be afforadable. Oh, yeah, we're dreaming, price is not a problem! :p Add porches with rocking chairs and I'm good to go. The rooms could be kind of a cross between WL rooms/WL lobby and Holiday Inn Family Suites.

A "studio M" type of place at the resort - one picture free per night's stay. :) Additional purchases optional, of course. At least a private place to spend a few minutes with Mickey and Minnie.

Different pool areas. One hot tub/quiet pool oriented; one smaller kid/family oriented with zero entry; one big kid oriented with something similar to Storm-a-long Bay, but with a slide entrance INSIDE the pool area and waterfall.

A large resort shopping area. :jester:

I really like your ideas best!! I think something in line with Cinderella's castle is what Disney needs to make all us princesses (and princes) feel extra special but with more of a moderate price range. But then too I like the idea of a Mickey/Minnie theme maybe on the value price resort. (Wonder if the Big Cheese reads these boards....) ;)

It was really fun reading our posts from 2003! Thanks for bringing this thread back to life.

I like the castle idea... but I was thinking of maybe a hotel based on "harry potter"... aka hogwarts. But then I guess when the movies are done the hotel would be kind of 'out of date'... so maybe the cindrella castle... or just a "castle of princess's" and it would be just like the All Stars... each castle would be based on one of the princess's of disney... each getting their out castle of course.

There are some really good ideas here. I especially like the Asian theme, and the "all-countries of Epcot" theme, although I think resort dining could prove to conflict with the park.

I've always wanted to see a Greek Islands Resort, probably because I've always wanted to go there. White stucco buildings with the tile roofs, mediteranean landscaping. I didn't think of it until this thread, but it would be perfect to tie in elements of ancient Greece as well. We could even put the CMs in togas :rotfl2:.

World Showcase Resort! OR WSR! There will be 11 seperate bldgs... just like the Polynesian... but each bldg is themed to the 11 countries in Epcot. This way... you have everything there...

There will be 11 counter service food court to represents the 11 countries' authentic food.
The pool is called "It's a Small World!" It's the biggest pool on disney property. With about 11 hot tubs!

This resort will have monorail/boat access to all 4 major themed parks.

The room will have about 600 sq ft and will come with a small kitchenette. And this room will sleep 6 people and 1 child under 3. It will have a full balcony... all facing Epcot!

There will be shops on the first 3 floors of every each bldgs. And also there will be at least two fine dining restuarants on the 4th floor in each bldgs and it will have the specialities of that country.

The 5th..6th..7th..8th..9th will be your standard room and your 10th floor will be your concierge! This concierge will offer you breakfast, light lunch and light dinner and your late snacks. It wil offer you everything you want and need to make your stay "magical."

And everyone that works there will have to be a native of that countries. And by the time you leave the resorts... you will be fluent in their language!

Oh... all these ideas are so great! My first thought was Cinderellas Castle theme... for obvious reasons (she's my favorite). BUT what about having a huge Princess Castle... each wing a slightly different castle dedicated to one of the Princesses! One for Cindy, one Snow white, one Beauty... etc. Oh the theme-ing could be fabulous! And just think how happy all the little (and big) girls would be!! Of couse we'd have to have all the Princes prominently displayed so the boys wouldn't feel too out of place. Boy I hope the immagineers read this thread!! It's fun just thinking about it!!

I know I'm probably one of the only ones (I've read the pet threads before LOL), but I think a nice themed resort that allowed pets would be AWESOME. Maybe something with a theme of all the animals of Disney? Thumper, Pluto, Goofy, Pooh, Llama from Emporers New Groove.....etc. There are so many animals in their movies, it would only make sense to be animal friendly at some point. Maybe have a small kennel in each wing instead of having one at each park. There could be rooms with tile or hardwood/pergo floors to cut down on any pet stains. Incorporating lots of pet walking areas throughout the resort....etc. Maybe you could separate dogs/cats by the buildings?

I would stay on property every year if they had a pet friendly hotel....but as it stands we usually stay off property and just drive to Disney one or two days during the week. When we stay on property though, we go to a park every day and spend a lot more at their resort stores/food courts....etc. Makes $$$ sense to me, but then again I'm not a hotel builder LOL

I've given some consideration to the hotel idea. I'm really in to modern things, but the Contemporary just isn't all that modern. My idea would be a large pentagon for the main area. It would have shopping and dining and things of that sort. Then on all of the points of the pentagon would be large round towers. I think this would be interesting for disney rooms, since most seem the same. It would be interesting to see how a room with a rounded side would be. Anyway, it would have a bunch of chrome and straight leather furniture.

What great ideas !
Keep them coming.

ALL Disney hotel rooms need two queen beds. Expecting people to pay Disney $$ to sleep in a double bed under any circumstances is WAY below industry standards.

Sorry, my pet peeve.
