We just got back from a great week stay at CBR. While there we decided that we would return in 2 years and asked the kids where they would like to stay and also DH and myself. DS said Poly, DD said Grand Floridian, DH wants Wilderness Lodge and I want the Contemporary, that was the first resort I stayed at in 1983 in a Gardenview room and have always wanted to stay in the tower. We wer planning on staying at AKL this time but decided to move because of all the contruction there. In 2009 we are defintely staying Deluxe. SO far we have stayed at POFQ, Saratoga Springs and CBR.

What resort would you pick and why??

At the time of the trip it will be me40, DH 41, DD16 and DS12. This will be our sixth trip since 1997 so a little relaxation at the resort will be in order. Oh an we will begoing the third week of August, if that matters.

Thanks for your opinions.

Denise

WL. We are staying there again this October.

I pick it because it has easy boat transportation to MK, and reliable bus service elsewhere. It has incredible theming in the lobby and elsewhere. Finally it is cheaper, by a good amount, than any of the other MK area Deluxe resorts.

Poly is a close second, because you have the addition of the monorail to MK, still have the boats to/from MK, and it is about a 5-minute walk over to the TTC, where you can hop on the EPCOT monorail.

that is mostly adults - so I would with BC.

you can walk to Epcot and Studio (okay boat too)

if you kids like to swim they will love the pool.:thumbsup2

I never thought about the Beach Club, it has Stormalong bay, right? What is the theming like??

I've always wanted to stay at the Contemporary resort with a MK view.

When I was a kid we most often stayed at POLY, because my dad liked the Hawaiian theming, but I always thought the monorail was cool going through CR.

I guess it's a curiosity thing more than anything.

We have stayed at the Contemporary and the Polynesian out of the ones you mentioned. If it was our choice, we would pick the Polynesian. The Contempoary is nice...but to us it is a little cold. Although we stay at the Coronado most times now, the Polynesian is definitely our favorite deluxe.

I would choose the GF; it is the most beautiful of the deluxe resorts (IMO) and being on the monorail is so nice! We visit almost always during the Christmas holidays and the decorations at the GF are awesome! I thought that it would be a snobbish resort but not so. Everyone that works there is helpful and friendly (sometimes, you come across some snobby guests but we just ignore them!). We also enjoy the Epcot resorts very much but GF would be our first choice.

For a summer trip, I'd pick the Beach or Yacht Club. After our stay at the BC, I can't imagine staying anywhere else if swimming was going to be a big part of the trip, and for us it always is in the summer!

Is SAB more geared toward younger kids? My kids love the pool.

I forgot that BC is the reosrt that has those great Mickey lifeguard lamps.:cool1:

no there are two pools - definitely one for the little ones.

but the big pool is for adults and older kids. It has one area where it is 8' or 12' deep.

that is why they have a bunch of lifeguards here.

Is a water-view room necessary? What are the views of Standard rooms?

For 2008, on the disney website a water view room is about $5500.

What is the difference between the Beach and Yacht clubs??

If you look at the Revealed! trip report in my sig, I have some pics of our BC standard view room, including the view. We looked out over a courtyard towards the Villas, and could just see Spaceship Earth through some trees. It was actually very nice at night, with SSE all lit up.

I think the main difference between the YC and BC is the theming. The decor is different, but the amenities are the same and they share the awesome pool complex.

I have some pics in my trip report, and there are loads of new pics on the YC/BC FAQ thread from another poster who just returned. It really is a lovely resort that I cannot say enough good things about!

My dream trip is Poly Tahiti Longhouse or Contemporary Tower Room with MK view!

We've stayed at and enjoyed them all. They all have their merits.

Your DS is a smart young man! ;)

 Wilderness Lodge

We stayed there in Jan and will be staying there again in Jan 08. The DS didn't go with us Jan and we are looking forward to taking him and seeing the look on his face when he sees the WL for the first time. We plan on only staying at the WL for our yearly WDW vacations :cool1:

We are staying at OKW this week and not doing any parks. It's the first time we've ever been here and not done the parks but we are really enjoying the relaxation.

Today we visited some of the resorts we have never been to in an effort to decide where we will stay the next few times we come down here. GF gets my nod for our next stay after which will be BWV. I simply like the convenience which is also why I like BC.

We've stayed at BC, WLV, SSR, and OKW. While I love the room at OKW I'm not a fan of the distance travel. The buses have been on time and I don't have any complaints or any issues. As a personal preference though, I'm more of a MK area fan.

On the other hand DH loves SSR and OKW. We spoke to the DVC CM and he said AKV rooms are large like OKW and we may visit SSR today to take a peek.

We also discovered POFQ today. First time we'd ever been there and we liked it. It's on our list after GF and BWV. We are also planning a cruise in Jan. 08 if we can make it work.

The bottom line for us is that we love WDW and are blessed to be able to come here often. We like all the places but have some preferences for one over another. However, as long as I'm in WDW I'm a happy camper.

Yacht Club all the way! Being at the Epcot resorts is great for the older kids. As a note, my DD17 and DD13 liked the quiet pool at the YC most of all. There were very few (if any) other people in the pool besides us.:thumbsup2

with a standard view at BC you may get a view of Epcot, quiet pool or BCV.

with a standard view at YC you may get a view of the parking lot or the courtyard (where the pavillion is) or quiet pool or gardens.

besides you can walk out of BC and be at Epcot before YC can get there is the boat. if you stay at bc, don't walk over to take the boat to Epcot - it is just plain faster to walk over to Epcot. now studio you can do the boat.

that is the plain differences besides the theming - I like bc better - more casually. if you like formal you may love the YC.
