STAY HOME.

Just because you have plans with family or friends is no reason to drag your germ laden bodies all over the place. Not to mention, don't you feel better when you are in your own home when you are sick?

All these posts about the germs makes me think of all the times I have seen people with ill children dragging them to family parties, malls, movies. Come on people, use your head.

Just before I was to go for a C-section to deliver DS#2 a friend came to my house with her sick kid...to play! She even had a doctor's appointment in a couple hours and expected me to watch the little brother while she dragged this child with the flu into the doctor. Well, the day after I had the baby, DH and DS and Dsis came down with the flu. I was all alone and they could not visit for the 4 days I was there. Then the baby and I got it when we got home.

All that because of an inconsiderate parent.

If you are running a fever, sneezing, coughing, Stay home. You will feel better and the other people may avoid getting sick. Some of us have asthma or diabetes or are on chemotherapy and it makes us very much more ill than others. Be courteous, please. ::yes::

Here! Here! I couldn't agree more.

A couple of weeks ago, I was waiting on a table of 3, a mother and her 2 kids. The boy looked awful. He didn't eat his soup and the mom asked me if he could take it home. I said "oh I'm sorry, did you not like it?" and the mother replied "oh no, it wasn't the soup, we just came from the doctor where they confirmed strep throat, I just want to get him to bed now".

Thanks alot for exposing all of us to that and for also dragging him out when the poor kid just needed to be in his own bed and resting.

AMEN RNMOM!!!!

I can't tell you how many sick kids come to school!!! I teach Kindergarten and if I had a nickel for everyone I sent home sick before 9:00 a.m. I could have retired years ago!!! Sure, there have been a few that did get sick at school, but too many come sick to begin with. They cough, sneeze and spread it to others.

It gets especially bad now before the holidays, parents are busy and have things to do and having a sick child home is too difficult.

Personally, one line that I hear that makes me cringe is, "Oh I knew he was sick, but he wanted to come to school so bad!" Excuse me, but WHO is the adult in that house?

Sick kiddies belong home on a couch with a teddy bear! Please!!!

I've had a cold since Thanksgiving and my sister just came to get my son so I can rest. Of course I had to have my laptop and my newspaper.... :teeth: Excellent advice!

I agree and I second it about keeping sick kids home from school! ::yes::

I also teach kindergarten. A week before Thanksgiving, one of my students came to school with a 102 temp. It was almost 3 hours before someone came to pick her up. 5 days later I was in the ER with acute strep throat!! It was so bad the doctor had the nurse give me an injection in the ER.

IF YOUR KIDS ARE SICK, KEEP THEM HOME.

While I believe that a child who has a fever or is throwing up or who has a sore throat should be kept out of school, you can't keep a kid home whenever he or she has a runny nose. Let's see. Let's say a child has five colds per school year. Each cold lasts a week. That would mean keeping the kid out of school for 35 days a year.

from getting together w/ family for Thanksgiving. Folks weren't happy in the beginning but realized how contagious we were & certainly didnt want them to get sick too!

We even missed a family wedding this past Sat. I can't even imagine giving our germs to the 150+ guests who were there who came from all over the country!

We got sick from a family bringing their sick kids to the nursery. Started w/ 21 month old, almost 4 yr old, me then dh.

We stayed home from church yesterday so we could all recover!

I totally agree, especially about keeping them from school when they are sick. As a mother of 3 children in three different schools (which equals tons of exposure to our family), I really wish people would adhere to the guidelines school districts have for keeping students home due to illness.
Some of us have asthma or diabetes or are on chemotherapy and it makes us very much more ill than others
So true, a 9th grade friend of my DDs was on chemotherapy (inoperable brain tumor) and became very, very ill due to a strep infection he contracted from a classmate. For those wondering why he was attending school if he was so at risk, he knew he was dying and wanted to maintain a 'normal' life as long as possible.

I'm the anti germ freak! Thank you for telling thousands what I tell anyone who asks about bringing a sick child over. My in laws hate me, in part, because I won't come and bring sick children to events at their house. I also tell them not to bring their sick children to my house. One cousin had shingles and was shedding the varicella virus. They were irate that I said "Don't come." They didn't believe me when I said someone could get chicken pox from a person with shingles. My MIL gave me a bottle of Purell for Christmas one year. I'm sure she meant it as an insult, but I was thrilled!!:D I'll never forget the Christmas with my preemie babies. MIL grabbed them, THEN started speaking...all stuffed up and hacking. She smiled and said, "It's just my Christmas Cold." I was livid.

If you are sick stay home. If you can't afford to be sick, then get the flu shot...that should prevent at least one long term sickness.

AMEN! My son had to miss his grandparents Christmas Eve party in 2001 because he had recently had his appendix out and my dh's IDIOT cousin brought her son to the party and HE HAD CHICKEN POX:mad: My son has had the vaccine- but his defenses were down due to the surgery. What really got me though was NOBODY had the "you know whats" to tell her to keep her germy contagious son at home.

My inlaws went to my bil's house last Tuesday for "Grandparents" day at my niece and nephews school- even though my bil's family had all been vomiting and had diarrhea over the previous weekend. I told them they were CRAZY for going.... but my fil said my niece was "so disappointed" when they mentioned not going. Well guess who was puking Thanksgiving night? And now my other niece who is 2 is throwing up and has 105* fever.... let's hope her 6 month old brother doesn't get it.... along with the pregnant cousin who was at Thanksgiving..... We avoided them this Holiday season.... call me rude- but I'm not throwing up!:teeth:

I keep my kids home if they are running a fever. Otherwise it is probably sinus, slight cold or allergies. DD and I missed a trip to Tennessee because of her fever, I much rather have her home....even though it was difficult knowing DH and DD#1 was on the trip.

My husband feels and sounds terrible, yet his boss gives him a bad time about staying home. "Buck up" is all he gets. Geeze, my husband has 60 vacation days available because his boss doesn't like him to take off - so it's not like he is asking for time he doesn't have. I think it is inconsiderate to go to work sick, especially at this time of year. No sense in ruining everyone's holiday season.

Oh, and all the sick people out and about make me appreciate shopping online all that much more...

I TOTALLY agree! These things would not become epidemics if folks would just use common sense! I am scared to death to go to WDW on the plane in January with all the flu around this year. I am unable to get a flu shot because of severe egg allergy, and I am also a high risk patient, so I worry about the flight this year.

I certainly agree about keeping kids home and I keep my kids home if they're showing any indication of being sick. On other threads, people have posted about their schools giving them a hard time because of absences even though the child was undeniably sick. It would help if schools (and bosses) were more understanding and didn't make what should be an easy decision hard.
