If you're not a DVC owner and still stay at the villas (spec. a 2 BR), do you ususally book through Disney or do you rent points from an owner? Is there any other way to rent a villa? Anyone ever have any difficulty renting from an owner? (I error on the side of trusting a person).

we've rented before and have had no problems. The hardest part is finding someone to rent you the points, it may take being flexible with dates or just a lot of emails!

I book through CRO, mainly for the flexibility of cancelling if I need to. If you rent points, you may or may not be able to cancel, or even change your dates. You have to be very sure of your plans.

I do try to look for discounts (I have an AP, AAA, and I'm a Florida Resident), but I think the extra $$ spent for the flexibility works better for me. My next villa stay is two weeks in September at the height of hurricane season.

If you know your plans won't change, it is a good way to save money. If you're looking for a two bedroom, try to find someone who's home resort is where you want to stay so they have the 11 month advantage.

I rent points because I'm looking to save money (otherwise I'd stay at the BC!).

I have a couple people I've rented through and always go to them for points. I've never had any issues or problems in that regard.

Good luck if you decide to rent them. It's quite a steal!

I would look into both options and see whawill work best for you.

We have only been to WDW once and stayed at AKL for our honeymoon. We are looking into renting points for our next trip so we can afford to stay at AKV. My parents are going with us and we are looking at 2 studios - savannah view - AKV. If we book through Disney, the studios are $440 each per night - renting points they equal out to be about $169 per night!! WOW what a difference!!!!!! I am psyched!!! As long as I have a contract and the confirmation numbers and references I feel comfy renting.

We have rented points before from Dis members and have never had problems. I find that they are very helpful. Its very easy and saves sooo much money!

I would rent points. OKW, ADV standard or value, BWV standard view are the cheapest. Your cost also depends on the time of year. My siter gave us some points but we had to rent some also. She is the one who told us about the disboards. Go to the DVC rent/trade board on this site. You will have to do alot of emailing at first. Try first thing in the am as thats when the new posts go up. Figure out how many points you are going to need to rent first. Sunday through Thursday is cheapest. Go with someone who has posted on boards with some frequency. Also I would go with someone who has rented before. Don't hesitate to ask for refernces and make sure that you get a contract. Paypal is the safest way to pay for it. Last but not least you can check with the state of FL to verify that they are a dvc owner. We have done this a few times and never had a problem.

Before becoming DVC members, we looked at renting points from someone on Ebay. They had very good feedback so we were willing to trust him; however, the dates in which we were interested were not available so we booked with an annual pass discount.

renting points work best for stays Sun-thurs (leaving on Fri) - fri/sat is expensive

example
OKW (adventure season ) 8 points per night for studio - fri or sat night - 20 points

so you can stay Sun-thurs or fri and sat - for the same amount of points.

I booked directly through Disney for our upcoming trip.
That way it would be easier to cancel if need be.

I'm renting points for the third time this coming November. I have never had any issues with renting, both experiences were very positive, and so far this one is as well. I know that it requires some trust, but having stayed in a villa twice, I can not, and will not, go back to not having laundry in my room. (And a kitchen, and a living room) Booking a 1-bedroom villa through CRO would bankrupt me, so I always rent. I stayed at the Poly last year for free dining, and I found that I missed being in a villa so much that I don't want to stay in a regular room again.
