If you are in a car behind my mini van...

Since we are on the subject of driving, Jeep Liberty this morning traveling at 70 miles per hour on a highway with a posted speed limit of 65. Suddenly virtually out of no where this Ohio State Patrol Materializes from thin air, Or was teleported there from an alternate universe and the Liberty SLAMS on his or her breaks. I was traveling behind at a safe distance but still had to slam my breaks as well. It is never nessasary to reduce your speed to 5-10 miles BELOW the posted speed limit. Last thing, if you are speeding, THEN you notice law enforcement, it's usually to late. Slamming on breaks at that point just makes you look guilty.

If you're behind me and beep at me, I think you beeped because you saw something dangerous and are trying to alert me to it. I stay stopped and look very carefully for the danger you so helpfully informed me of. Oh, sorry, did we miss the arrow? Dang, guess we'll have to sit here another light cycle. But thanks for thinking of my safety!!!! :rotfl:

LOL I did that to a very impatient old lady once. :rolleyes1
And I didn't appreciate it!

JUST KIDDING! It wasn't me, I wasn't there, and please, if I haven't got patience when drivers ahead of me are just being safe - what kind of hypocrite would I be???????

Do not beep at me to move the second the green arrow (left turn) comes on. What you did not see is there was still a car in the intersection when you were beeping at me to go.

Just want to point out that there are 2 ways of getting your attention in this situation, and beeping is definitely preferable to being rear-ended. :rolleyes1 Yes, someone thought it was a good idea to rear-end DH this past New Year's Day because we didn't move fast enough when the light turned green. :headache: She couldn't see the car in front of us that hadn't yet moved either. But I guess maybe we just should have rear-ended them? :confused3

What was it about this beeping that so distressed you that you had keep it in mind long enough to be able to start a thread about the issue?

Why do people not just let these tiny little things go and move on with their lives?

The cab drivers in DC are the WORST about honking as soon as the lights turns green (and sometimes a split second BEFORE the light turns green, actually). I don't drive in the city, but I hear it ALL THE TIME as a pedestrian. It is so daggone rude.

During our time in Panama, everyone we knew stationed there, refered to stop lights as "Honk and Go Green Lights." You could be the 5th car in line, and there would be multipule cars behind you honking the second the light turned green. You quickly learned to tune it out.

Not to hijack this thread, but you'll be thrilled to know that tonight, after ensuring that there was no traffic coming from the left, I did turn right on red at that light... without any 'auditory urging' from the cars behind me :rotfl2:

Another one bites the dust, strong armed into turning right on red by those impatient DIS drivers. Remember its still your choice :rotfl:

I honked because I saw that you were on your cell, applying makeup and your child was out of their carseat climbing into your lap. I thought you might like some help driving.

As long as she isn't trying to back in to a parking spot, she can handle all that while driving

Because it's fun to vent about such things. Seeing as you always seem to have a problem with these types of threads, might I suggest you *not* click on them, and let us have our discussion? Thanks so much!

I agree wtih you! :thumbsup2

If someone doesn't like the subject of discussion, then why bother to even open it? :confused3

I've been guilty of honking at someone in front of me on a green light, but only when I can see perfectly well that there is nothing in the way. The person is usually just not paying attention so I give a "friendly little toot." :)

What is there about people coming to this Community (read: general) discussion forum to vent about what you consider tiny things that continues to attract your attention to the point of enticing you to complain in those threads about other posters venting about what you consider tiny things?

Because it's a discussion forum, and that is the general idea, to post threads on various topics, and express you own opinon and hear the opinions of others.

I've beeped when behind someone at a green light, if it appears that they are looking the other direction (and not looking at the light), and didn't realize that it turned green.

Hey! I resent that! I wasn't strong-armed into anything (unless it will make other DISers happy to think they strong-armed me into turning right on red where permitted, in which case, please ignore the rest of this "rant" ;)). I was talking about ONE light, ONE night! I'm a STRONG advocate of turning right on red after coming to a complete stop and assuring it's safe to proceed. Hey, I'm the one with the brother who justifed turning right on red where there was a sign stating "no turn on red": The sign was on the LEFT traffic light pole! If the city meant what they said, they'd have put the sign on the RIGHT-hand traffic light pole, where affected drivers could reasonably be expected to SEE it!

Not to put a damper on this thread, but I was just reminded of a green-light incident that DBF and I were in last month...

We were on the highway for a very short time and ended up behind a minivan going about 45. We got off at the same exit. There are two lanes at the end of the ramp, with lights, as it funnels into two southbound-only lanes. Other than the slow speed, nothing else seemed amiss with the driver of the van. He was the first vehicle at the light in the lefthand lane, we were still behind me. When the light turned green, he didn't move. After several seconds, we gave him a little honk (literally, a little "beep-beep"). Still didn't move. A few more seconds, then another, slightly longer honk. Didn't move. Now others behind us were honking, and due to traffic in the right lane, nobody could move over. We gave him another longer honk and he STILL didn't move.

The light turned red...one car pulled up in the right lane, and we were able to back up and pull into the right lane. When the light turned green, the van still didn't move an inch. As we pulled out, we both turned to see the driver slumped over the steering wheel (how he kept his foot on the brake, I don't know). So now we both felt horrible...at the next light, we made a U-turn to go back. The van was STILL sitting there, cars honking. We pulled into a gas station and called 911. Gave it a few minutes, then drove by again. A state trooper was parked behind the van, the officer was standing at the driver's door, the door was open and the guy was moving and talking to the officer, so who knows what happened...

Anyway...sorry I ruined the fun...:guilty:

Where in my post was a complaint? I merely am curious about the motivations surrounding the creation of such a thread. Why is it OK for you to participate in the discussion but not for me to? Does my asking the question somehow stop you from enjoying the thread?
Because it's fun to vent about such things.
Since you are not the OP, it's not really appropriate for you to explain her motivation, is it?

If you don't open the thread, you can't ask the question. It should also be noted that without opening the thread, you don't even know what the topic actually is.

It's actually very appropriate for me to comment, since I myself have been subject to your ridicule on a similar thread of my own. It's getting pretty old. If you don't like the subject matter, then don't click on it and make condescending remarks. Simple as that!

You nailed it!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Yes you can. You hold your mouse over the thread title and you can read the first sentence or two. That usually gives you a pretty good idea of what the thread's about. I would think you'd know that by now....
