So I got my tax return last week, and after paying up my bills I splurged and bought myself a new (but cheap) PC. The PC (a $400 Evil Store special) came with a 19" widescreen HD monitor, so I wanted a hi-res screensaver to take advantage of it

So I went to www.downloads.com and did a search, and came up with the "Dream Aquarium" ( www.dreamaquarium.com ). I'm addicted! I just sit and stare at the fish, and even forked out the cash for the full version so I could add more types. It has to be by far the most realistic screensaver I've ever seen.

It's horrible!

So do you have any sillly computer things like that you are addicted to?

My dad has a really cool screen saver program where it links to the "My Pictures" area and shows the pictures as if you're walking in an art gallery.

I have the first real aquarium screen saver. Before it was just still pictures moving across the screen.

With these new ones the tails wiggle, the bubbles come up from the pump, etc.. very cool. But I only have like three or four fish.

Ummm yes, I'd say DH and I are easily amused computer addicted seniors, as we have 'His' and 'Her' computers, seperated by a big window that over looks our big front yard too an abundance of nature. Right now our yard's covered w/snow and ice and the warm sun sparking upon . We're enjoy all the beautiful birds as they feast from our birdfeeders.

DH had a similar aquarium screen saver to yours that made bubble sounds w/a diver floating around .
He loves wolves, as he worked with them at his friend's, Jim Fowlers, some years back. DS made him a CD's of wolves which are now his rotating screen savers, thankfully they make no noise ! My desktop is our family pic (in siggie) of my CRT BD luncheon, my screen saver is rotating family photos, shall we say maybe a few thousands!?!?

LOVE and am thankful for all this wonderful technology we're blessed with!?!?!

I've got the same aquarium screensaver. It looks pretty realistic. I have a friend who has it also but his looks better on his glossy monitor that makes it look like real glass.

My husband was researching how to fix our monitor when he found someone else who also downloaded an aquarium screen saver and within a week their monitor refused to wake up too. Anyone on the DIS have that trouble? Or any idea how I can fix my Dell computer? I'm am totally bummed.

can you start in safe mode and uninstall the screen saver? Or revert to a previous restore point?

Just the other day, I followed the directions in this DIS thread to use My Pictures as a screensaver, then had the same non-waking monitor problem.

I ended up googling on my laptop to find the answer. Post #9 & #10 in that thread talk about the problem & what I had to do to get rid of it. Good luck.

I'm back to no screensaver. I'm using Vista, don't know if that's part of the issue. Its the only problem I've had so far.

I had a fish screen saver but I also have a cat. the two are just incompatable. Noting like finding your cat on your keyboard swatting at the fish he just cant see to EAT.

Unfortunately, since there is no screen, I can't start it in any mode. There is nothing to click on because the screen is black and refuses to wake up.

I'm off to try OctMt Woods suggestions. I did already try rebooting the computer - to no avail. So do you think I should hold down the power button?

In any case, I am glad that this is not happening to everyone.

OMG! I thought our kitty was the only bozo who did that! I think he's initially attracted by the bubble sound, but then the fish tail's movements drive him nuts.

He finally realized he wasn't going to catch and decided to take a nap!
