Hello everyone! I am new to this board but not to the DIS. I am very seriously thinking of signing up for either the Donald or Mickey in '08. My daughter ran her very first full marathon this past January at WDW and I was never so impressed in my life. It was so awesome being a spectator and I kept thinking that being a participant would be even better. I have never done any sort of a marathon in my life and due to a previous back surgery I am not supposed to run. But I can walk pretty fast. I started training in January and have gotten up to walking 12 miles over gently hilly terrain in about 2 hours, 50 minutes. I have signed up for the Lehigh Valley 1/2 Marathon in Allentown PA on 4/29 and I am doing it with another DISer and fellow cruiser. Here's my dilemma: when I started training, I had no idea what I could or couldn't do so the half marathon seemed almost impossible. The fact that I am up to a fairly easy 12 mile trek after only 5-6 weeks of training is much better than I expected. My original plan was to do the Donald in '08 and the Mickey in '09, but I really think i'll be up for the Mickey this January. It's a long way to walk, but I think I can do it....especially at WDW! I don't mind the training itself but it is EXTREMELY time-consuming and I don't know if I want to devote another year to it....especially if the 1/2 is not going to be that much of a challenge. Does anyone have an opinion about what i should do? I would like to wait until the Allentown 1/2 marathon is over so I can assess my performance, but by then it will be almost May and I'm afraid the WDW races will be closed out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
