Can you "switch" bought points? I used up all of my 2002 points with a reservation at OKW in December. If I bought a few points here, could I use them and free up some of mine or would I have to cancel and re-make my reservation?

It sounds as though you have borrowed from your 2002 use year for a trip this Dec. Those points must now remain in the current use year and cannot be banked- so they will expire at the end of the use year.

If you can have another member transfer points into your account, those transferred points retain their original use year, but may now be used by you for a reservation. MS can even reallocate your points in an exisiting reservation to use the transferred points.

Just make sure you are aware of all aspects of your existing reservation before you transfer points and then find they may not help you accomplish what you really want.

KLR- we are kind of in the same situation. We borrowed 100 pts. for our OKW reservation in Aug. After we did this, we thought about adding on 100 pts. I specifically asked my guide if we could put those borrowed points back into our 2001 use year which begins in Oct. and use our add-on pts. He said yes we could. I even questioned him about not being able to put it back into that year, and he still said we could do it. I'm wondering if they are willing to do it if you are adding on points. We haven't decided to do it yet because I'm still not sure if they'll will indeed let us put those points back. It is too late for us to bank any add-on points, so we would lose them. You may want to check with your guide and see what he/she says.

Depending on the month that you wish to begin your use year, I would think that points that you buy now could then be banked until next year. You would have borrowed the points from next year for this year's vacation and in essence be replacing them with the points that you buy this year and hold them over for the next use year.

Guys I keep trying to tell you don't listen to the sales guide- ask MS. The Guide will tell you anything to get you to ad on. MS will tell you wether or not it will be possible.

I was told that it would use your 1 time lifetime exception to do so, the guide told me it was not true. So I asked for a Manager at MS... guess what my Guide was WRONG!!!

The original question in this thread was started on the Rent/Trade board. I think KLR-wlv was asking about "renting" points from another member and then using those points for a reservation instead of the borrowed points.
