We DVC people would probably go on LONGER TRIPS AND IN THE LONG RUN SPEND MORE money because we could stay for longer....more shopping from Disney, more meals purchased. MAKES SENSE TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hmmmmmm maybe someone important will see this post and take it seriously....or NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

They cannot lower weekend points without raising weekday points. The total points for a resort must remain the same. They could even things out by making all nights cost the same number of points...but I don't see that happening anytime soon. The charts are the way they are to deter those members who live closer to WDW from taking long weekend trips only.

If you want to see high points, look at a Hilton Head Saturday night. They have a different rate for Friday and Saturday. The Saturday rate is triple the weekday rate.

You have to assume these point structures are in place for a reason. But in the case of WDW I would think they could shave a point or two off the weekend rate and add it elsewhere.

Anyone know the occupancy rate for weekdays compared to weekends at WDW DVC resorts? I'm talking rooms on points, not cash.

If higher demand times were not weighted with higher point values, availability would be a nightmere.

I'm sorry but there is no way you can make weekend points the same as weekday points. That would be a worse catastrophy than the new booking policy.

I think every pointbased timeshare system I have looked at (Wyndham, Hilton, Bluegreen, the internal trading systems of Starwood and Hyatt) all have higher points for the weekends.

OK, I can see the need for some differential between weekday and weekend...but it seems to me the difference is too dramatic. I think the OP makes an interesting "point" :lmao:, and I worry that the DVC higher-ups haven't examined all the implications of the current huge differential.

Yes it is HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE.

It has been that way for nearly 20 years, I think they've studied the occupancy patterns pretty well by now, ;) and they did adjust the OKW point chart in 1996.

Remember that is it also those higher weekend points that in turn make trades to cruises and other non-DVC resorts through the Disney collection possble, as they are more likely to get cash reservations on weekends to offset the cost of those trades.

I tend to look at the point cost in terms of the whole week, not just the weekdays vs. the weekends.

If they did make any adjustments, it would STILL be the same number of points per week (or close to it), which actually would HURT the people who go Sunday through Thursday only. (I hate to think of the threads on this board if that were to happen!)

If it's not worth the points to you, then pay cash or move on the weekends.

To me, having the same villa for a week or longer is more than worth it. And knowing that I *can* get those weekends (because the points are higher) is also worth it.

Just a random thought that crossed my mind today.......

Wasn't sure why the weekends were so much higher......

I am sure my one thread will NOT change anything.........

:rolleyes1

You know really..that is a very smart way of looking at it.....Why do some of US freak out over the two weekends??? I mean if we avg. them out over 7 days....it would probably make more sense even though it all comes out in the wash the same way basically :headache:

In a dreamworld it would be nice to lower the points -- but in the real world you'd still be booking non-DVC for weekends because those within driving distance would be booking up just about every weekend! ;-)

I'm with those who look at the total cost of the vacation -- divide it yourself so that the weekends don't seem that expensive. ;)

We can't blame you for thinking of ways to stay longer at WDW!

:goodvibes We all want to stay longer:wizard:

ITA. The locals would have a field day! If the points were the same all week, it would be like having a second home for those close enough to drive. Just think if you could book a studio for 12 pts a night on Fri and Sat. The minimum buy in could go a long way.

I also avg our points over the full week. If you only stay the weekends, it is very high, but averaged over the week, the weekends only add 3-5 points to every night. I can't justify moving to save 3 pts per night, so I use my points.

Also, don't forget to factor in the cost of the move to a value or moderate or elsewhere on weekends. You will have extra Bell Services fees, homeless for the better part of the day, packing and unpacking time, etc. Once I did this, we stopped moving.

If all the points were the same each night anyone that wants a week or more vacation would be shut out by anyone that can drive there in a couple of hours - there are ALOT of members from Florida and Georgia that would spend weekends on a lower point chart and we wouldn't have our 7 - 10 night stays available. DVC knew what they were doing when they came up with their system!!!

 I guess I should NOT HAVE even mentioned this. It DOES MAKE SENSE now to me.

I once posted how nice it would be to have a pull out chair like they were then installing in the value suites. People were all up in arms (ha ha) about it NOT happening. DVC has rules etc....a one bedroom will NEVER sleep five etc....

Well what do you know....AKL has the sleeper chair in their one bedrooms. :rotfl:

You never know what could happen. Yes, I would love fewer points on the weekends. Heck, even fewer points for Fri since we tend to leave on a Sat.

All the systems have a pretty "dramatic" increase in weekend points. Just yanked out a Bluegreen chart.

Mountain Run at Boyne MI.

2br ultra high season(summer)

Mon-Tues 725
Fri-Sat 3650(yes that's per night)
Sun 1800

EXACTLY! This is what my guide told me when I asked this 9 years ago when we purchased. In my opinion, I thought that it would be nice for DVC members to get WD points on the WE if we stayed for 7 days-but I know nothing will change. Oh well.
