DH keeps mentioning he wants to go see the Pacific Ocean while we are there, since we live on the Atlantic Ocean.

The only day we might have time is Mother's Day. Does anyone have any suggestions for a day trip to the beach?

Which beach?

How should we get there? How much would transportation cost from DLH?

TIA! :thumbsup2

I like Newport Beach!! It's my favorite and not too far. I think I would take a taxi if I didnt' have a car, but it might run you $30-$40 I would imagine (one way!) Not sure if a bus goes there, there must be one that just goes down Harbor all the way there. Other than that, I don't really know about a shuttle, hope someone can help you out on that!!

Actually you might be better off bidding and renting a car for the day. All you'd need is a little compact to get you there and back, and that could be as low as $20!! There is one car rental place that will come get you at the hotel and drop you back off, someone else might be able to remember the name!!

Thanks, Andrea!

I've never rented a car before, so I'd be a little nervous about driving in CA. :confused3

I'd really like a shuttle if anybody knows of one.

There isnt really a shuttle to take you to the beach. might have to take the OCTA... that might take hours just to get to the beach.

i would go what Andrea is saying, rent a car.

Just word of warning though, most of OC beaches can get pretty crowded.

Hmmmm... maybe we'll just skip it.

Besides, on Mother's Day, I can go Albort hunting! :thumbsup2

I think you can take surface streets to the beach, so I wouldn't worry about it. I would rent a car. They might even have a rent-a-wreck nearby. I did that once in LA - you get a wreck of a car, but it runs, is cheap, and you won't worry to much about anything happening to it.

You can just take Harbor pretty much all the way to Newport Beach!! It is super easy especially on a Sunday so I would not let traffic scare you away from it!!

Since we are on the subject- we are thinking of going to the beach our first day. My 8 year really wants to go to the beach and I think that is the day it will fit in the best. We fly in from Seattle to Long Beach aiport about about 2pm, on a Thursday. I was thinking of hitting the beach for an hour or two, then check in to the hotel for a quick shower then to DL for a couple hours before it closes.

Would Newport be our best choice for that plan?

I think so!! You might hit a little more traffic there or on the way back, but it's totally do-able!!

What we tend to do is spend weekdays at the parks and then we'll hit DL for about 2 hours 9am-11am on a Saturday to take advantage of the low crowds in the morning. Then we walk back across to our hotel and hit the beach from about noon - 3pm grabbing some lunch on the way. Then we head back, take showers and make it out the door to the parks for dinner and nighttime fun!! Doesn't work for everyone but it might help someone!!

Either Huntington or Newport Beach would be great. Newport has beach houses right up to the Strand (beach boardwalk) and fun to walk on. If you walk south of pier you will go towards Balboa Island and see some awesome homes and the harbor. Newport also has a great pier and people watching. Charlies Chilies right at end of pier for great food. Huntington is probably our favorite because it is the true Southern California Beach City. The stuff you would see on TV. Alot of action to watch. Major volleyball,(which DH loves to watch and EXPENSIVE cars along the Pacific Coast Highway to oggle), surfers, and fire pits right on beach to bbq with. The Strand also goes through here. Up the street is the Sugar Shack for great food also. Only for breakfast and lunch I think. Dukes at beginning of Pier for a nice dinner. Along both beaches are walk up food booths. Try the strips(tortilla chips) and cheese and salsa. Yum!!! These have been a favorite with locals for as long as I can remember. The beaches are only miles apart so you could go to both. I would definately go to the beach if I were you. The Atlantic is so different than the Pacific. Waves are much bigger here and the terrain way different too. It would be a shame to be in California and not see the ocean. Have so much fun!!!:yay:

There are so many great beaches down there! I lived in Newport Beach for almost 10 years, and loved it! Huntington, Newport, Corona del Mar (just south of Newport) and also Laguna Beach - all fun places!
I agree with the earlier poster - it would be a shame to come all this way, and not to see the Pacific Ocean!
Car rental would be easy - traffic would not be a problem on Sunday mornings. The freeways and side streets are very easy to navigate! It is not far from Anaheim to the coast - maybe 20 minutes?
Have fun, and enjoy your upcoming vacation! :sunny: :sunny:

I did notice that in my AAA Disneyland brochure, they offer an excursion, with transportation, to Newport Beach, called the *Orange County Experience Tour*. Not sure what all it entails, but it costs $48.00 per adult.

We stayed at Laguna Beach for two nights and loved it Our room was right on the beach. I am not sure how Laguna is for a day trip though.

We are trying to decide if we want to spend the money to stay a night or two at one of the beaches again or if we just want to make day trips. I would love to see Huntington Beach and Newport Beach since I haven't been to them since I was a little girl.

Any "inexpensive" (you know what I mean) places to stay close to the water or ocean front?

Okay, here is something I checked out for you. Just because I love this beach and there is something for everyone. There is a train from the Anaheim Station (Amtrak) that will take you all the way to Oceanside and San Diego if you want. However, I love that it stops at San Juan Capistrano. This is a beautiful beach with great little shops and eateries and one of the California Missions - San Juan Capistrano. You can catch the train at the station near the Anaheim Stadium - a very short cab ride from your hotel (or you can use the OCTA along Katella). Anyway, it will cost (for the two of you) $36 round trip on the train - or if you have AAA it is $32.40. There are several trains in the morning - the earliest on that day is 8:02 a.m. and several return trains in the evening. . .

Here is a schedule link. . .I am sure you can navigate your way around from here. Also check out the website for San Juan Capistrano. . .You will love it.

You may have to copy and past that link into your browser window. Have fun and happy planning. . .

Thank you so much, everyone! I definitely have some decisions to make.

I cannot wait!!! 49 days!!! :hyper:
