Air tran has pushed our flight back so that now we don't arrive until about 7:00pm. on a Wed. night. If we don't like our room location can I go back in the morning to switch to a more desirable room(I would be willing to pay the change fee) That way , 9 out of 10 nights would be in a desirable room. Has anyone done this ??? What kind of cooperation did you get from the CM??

If you are staying on points, you can ask to be switched but will be charged the room cleaning fee:

Studio $25
1 BR $30
2 BR $40
GV $60

On my first trip to BWV I was disappointed in not getting the BW view, the CM offered to check if one was available later in our stay, but we would be charged the fee. I declined, I didn't want to packup and move after we got settled in (not only luggage but groceries).

I don't exactly understand your question--do you mean that if you get a first floor room overlooking the woods, and you would rather have a irst floor overlooking the pool, you would ask to move? that would be in poor taste, in my opinion, asking for a room change just because there are other areas that you consider more desirable. Now, if the room had a problem, such as a dumpster near-by, or a big obstruction off the balcony, or worse yet, no balcony at all, those are valid reasons for requesting a room change. A possible alternative would be to spend your first night in a "cheap" room, such as CAribbean or Port Orleans, which are about $119 now, and then go to your resort EARLY to check in when the choice of rooms is greater. That's what we are doing--no more dumpsters for me!!;)

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but the room change procedure and fee schedule was set up specifically for those who wish to change their room...whatever the reason. While you would change due to an obstruciton off the balcony, others might not since they don't care about the view or spend time on the balcony.

We recently arrived late due to airline delays and had to accept a room in what we considered a less than optimum location. We decided to keep the room, but would not have hesitated to move to another location if members of our party so desired.

Just ask to be moved and expect to pay the fee. At least you have potential options but they are not guaranteed.

Remember the room is still at Disney. It's not like they moved to New York or something.

I think that by obsessing about your room choice, condition etc. you just set yourself up to be unhappy. I have never worried much about my room - I have had all kinds of rooms including the handicapped and had a really good time. I keep reading about memos from people who seem like thier whole vaction was just shot because their room had the wrong view, wrong building, long walk to the elevator etc.... Folks you are at Disney and you are not living there for 30 years while you pay off the mortgage or something.

Personally I would not go to the trouble of changing rooms, just not how I want to spend my vacation.

We had a room one time that I absolutely hated. We however kept it as 'someone' has to stay in that room and that time it was us. In the future it will be other members turn to stay there. We figure we own the great locations, and the not so great.

I wouldn't worry too much about the room. However, if it really makes you unhappy once you get there, you can always ask if there is another option (and be willing to pay the fee).

I know some people don't care about the location/view. However, I really look forward to looking out over the golf course at OKW and I spend time on the balcony. It does take something out of my vacation when I get a room that lacks a nice view. I, too, have accepted some rooms thinking it was just "my turn" for that room. However, I have now learned to ask if there is any other option.

Of course you might pay to move and the new room be no better or even worse as far as location or view.

Something to consider.

I wouldn't move unless it were an area I was familiar with and I could be pretty much sure it would be an improvement. But, you are right. You could go from bad to worse if you just move blindly.

I also spend time on my balcony and really enjoy the particular view that I like. I would not hesitate to ask if something else was available if I didn't get a room that I liked. I also would expect to pay the fee. I would only do this if there was a room in the location I wanted and if it was available the following morning so we would not unpack the first night. I would not want to move half way through my vacation.

We just returned from a visit to our home, BWV. We had a 2 bedroom, preferred view booked...I'm not sure what the room number was, but it was all the way at the end of the hall and we were looking down at the tennis courts and parking lot. Since we had used points for "preferred view", I did not think that was what we got. We called down and told them we were not happy and they moved us.

We visit 2-3 times a year and this is the first time this has happened.

The CM was very nice and moved us to a room overlooking the luna pool.

I must say, it looked like quite a few rooms were out of order for remodeling.

I paid the fee last August. My DD and I were staying in a BCV studio for six nights, and were given a first floor room overlooking the road. After two nights of restless sleep because of the road noise, we asked to move. We were given a third floor room overlooking the courtyard with an SRO balcony, but we were happy.

We always have a late arrival due to flying from the West Coast. We usually stay off site our first night if we are booked at the BW. We have learned thru experience that we would usually get a less than desirable room at the BW with a late arrival. However, we have always had our choices met at OKW despite the late arrival.
Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

I thought those rooms were standard view, facing the tennis courts & parking lot. Did they charge you for the move?

I thought that tennis court/parking lot views are considered standard view?

Edited to add: Oops, DebbieB and I posted at the same time (and almost the same word for word)! :p

We thought the same thing...this was a standard view. But when we asked, they said since our room was located such that we also had a "water view", it was preferred.

We'll have to remember to ask for non-smoking, close to the elevators, high floor in the future.

By the way, we did not have to pay to move since we got our room right away at check-in (2:00 p.m.) and moved immediately.

If you arrive that night and are unhappy with the location or any aspect of the room and would like to change...

You will first want to ask the location and view at the front desk before you even go to the room. (they might have another room still available and be able to switch you without staying in the room/ paying the room change fee)

If nothing is available the first night and you decide you want to change the next day, you will want to call the front desk that night and try to arrange something for tomorrow. Sometimes they need 24 hours notice to be able to rearrange other room assignments to fit you in. Also, housekeeping needs some notice to know that they will need to have the room you stayed in the first night cleaned. (so it can be ready for another guest by 4pm)
