If we can DREAM it, we can do it! ..... another 30 day vacation Update 02/07

LOVE the parade pictures. And the Earl of Sandwich meal is making me drool.

Great report on Paris,Karin.

Sorry for the long period of silence - school is nuts at the moment, why can't we just have lessons until the last day, but NO, we need to do projects. :sad2: Now some of them don't work out (lack of snow) and everything has to be re-organized. You all have no idea how much I am looking forward to the holidays. :goodvibes Two weeks of NO school and just kicking back and preparing for our next Disney trip. :woohoo:
Speaking of Disney - yesterday the weather was decent (no snow, no black ice), so we decided to drive to Passau, Germany for a bit of shopping. Turns out one of their shops is stocked with Disney stuff! We both were in heaven. :rotfl2:

Now, on to replies and hopefully some more updates on our summer trip before we head off to WDW and the DREAM in under 9 weeks. ;)

Karin, I was so excited to read about your Paris trip but it is hard to fathom how crowded it was. WOW.... that is crazy. We've always wanted to spend a week there but now I'm not sure. It might be better to spend a week in Paris and then, do a few days at DL Paris. What do you think? I can't wait to read about your week long trip.

P.S. I love the Dooney bag's zippers. They look very colorful.

To be honest, we knew what we were in for by going to DLRP at a weekend. We expected crowds, NOT such huge crowds though. :rotfl2:
If you want to do DLRP, try to go at a "less busy" season if that is possible and go there during the week, MUCH easier. :thumbsup2

Believe me, I love those zippers on the Dooney's too! They are pretty neat. ;)

I have read a couple DLP and I have to say that the crowds definitely seem worse at this time of year. That must have be annoying to have long waits for everything.

The view from your room is lovely and the giant ice rink looks so cool. I am really enjoying the pictures of all the different hotels. The Christmas decorations are wonderful.

Smart move bringing the Earl of sandwiches home with you. Nothing like taking a piece of Disney home, but I have to say your airplane food looks a lot better than what we get on a 2 hour flight here in the states.

Weekends are always crowded at DLRP, and it being Christmas season didn't make it any easier. ;)
But since we have APs we don't mind just heading inside a park, do a ride or two or some shopping and then "flee" again. The AP has long paid for itself by getting the 40% discount on the hotel, 20% off merchandise and 10% of ALL food items. ;) And we go often enough so that we don't really miss "rides".

We REALLY loved the hotel room and its view. Priceless! Unfortunately it was FAR too short! :rotfl2:
The hotels are cute, but too close together for me, it takes away some of the theming if you can see the "national park hotel" (Sequoia Lodge) and the "New England hotel" (Newport Bay) from your New York hotel. :rotfl2: But it was still nice.

Yes, airplane food is still pretty decent here, that's one thing I really like about travelling on Lufthansa (and Austrian ;)).
It really felt good to have an EoS Sandwich when we were already home and they still were good and tasty. Tom even got two more wraps and ate them the next day and he swore they were still very yummy! :goodvibes

Thats a marathon update Karin!!! Phew!!! Now to wait for pics to show up on my slow phone...haha

Hope you got to see the pics in the end, Jeanette! :goodvibes I still can't get over the fact that our summer trips overlap and we might get to see the pas-girls (and boys) :lmao:

Awesome uipdates Karin. Great video of the Christmas parade! Thank you for sharing it with us!:santa: Too bad your trip had to end, but you have another just around the corner!

I am glad you enjoyed the trip report and video, Tammie! I cannot believe it's been a month since we have been to Paris and less than 9 weeks until we go back to Disney and DCL again. ;)

I LOVE the tuna melt...
Great trip. I can't beleive the girl at the register just left without coming back then. I keep hearing over and over how this type of thing is so common in DLP and it amazes me that Disney doesn't push the issue.
They lost out on a sale then.
The parade looks like a lot of fun!
I really enjoyed WDW with the Christmas decor and I really hope we can make it back again someday at that time.

The tuna melt is one of MY favourites too! :thumbsup2
CMs at DLRP are VERY different to the ones at WDW. :rotfl2: For them it is just a job, so you'll see them texting, chatting amongst each other and being rude to guests - welcome to Europe! ;)
The problem is that most of the stock is held by European people, but we heard that Disney is trying to get "the parks back" and I think they are really pushing it, seeing the little parade and decorations on Main Street. One can always hope! :goodvibes
I really really hope that in the not so far future we will be back to visit at Christmas again - we had a blast when we visited a few years ago. :thumbsup2

So I obviously know very little about DLP, but the property resorts look very nice! I know that DLR has the 3 hotels, but somehow they don't seem to be accessible in the same way that WDW hotels are. They are also so near other hotels and not in their own "world" that they don't seem to be maybe as special as WDW hotels. The hotels in Paris seem to be more on par with how WDW is. Am I wrong?

I have to thank you and Tom for the calendars. After a bit of an emotional evening, I decided to gander at them. How they cheered me up. :goodvibes

I had never heard of Krampus day. St. Nicholas.. yes. The community I live in is big on that day... putting shoes out and all. Do you put shoes out in Austria?

The strawberry waffles at RF pic made me smile too. I think that may be one of my favorite foods in all of WDW! Isn't that odd?

Your view is just breathtaking! I love it!!!

Breakfast buffet looks pretty impressive.

It seems like your ride wait times sure did interfere with your ability to ride the rides. :sad2:

Poo on the latecomer family. Why do some people just assume they can be in the front no matter what? In September/october, a family sat in the front seats at FOTLK. You know, the ones reserved for wheel chairs. When a cm came up and told them that the seats were needed for a person with a chair, they could not understand why they had to give up their spots since that person in the chair could pull up along side. The cm had to argue with them about how the person in the chair was granted 6 seats on the bench for their family members. The family who had been so proud to get front row seats all but refused to budge. Finally, some people in the next row back allowed them to squeeze in with them...thus allowing for all of the family (who rightfully could sit there) could as well as a few of the original family.

:headache: I can't believe you had to deal with the scammy car rental place. I think this is why I hate renting cars. I ALWAYS worry that they are up to something.

What a nice holiday trip!!!

The resort is pretty nice, BUT, everything is VERY close together, so that kind of spoils the theming. I mean, we stayed at the New York and were only a few steps away from Sequoia and Newport Bay. Much more fun at WDW, where they are really spread out and nothing spoils the appearance. If you ask me, DLRP does a little better on theming than DL, but is far from WDW. ;)

Glad you still enjoy the calendars.

As for Krampus and St. Nikolaus - I am not sure people still put out their shoes. Nowadays it's more like St. Nick leaves gift bags. :rotfl2:

You know, it was because of you and Linda that we drove over to WL to try the waffles. They were yummy and I am sure I'm going to have some in February. ;)

Well, your story about the "bench hoggers" in FOTL is even worse than ours. Here we are used to people just getting in front of you. I got pretty good at not being pushed, but if you budge, they WILL just step in front of you. And another thing that I HATE is, when parents put their kids on their shoulders and THEN walk in front of you. :sad2:

And I could not believe how quickly the lady at the rental car desk gave in, when I mentioned that I thought it was a scam. I am sure it was!!
We always get ALL the insurances, so I am not really worried about us renting a car, but you really need to be very careful when you do so in Paris. ;)

All caught up - I missed quite a few updates! It looks like you had a good trip to Paris overall, what a great experience. I'm sorry that you had to deal with that CM at the Dooney shop and the car rental lady though.

:woohoo: for not giving up and catching up again! :thumbsup2
We really had a fun time at DLRP and I got my Dooney in the end. ;) Plus I figured out that the rental car lady was trying to scam us, so in the end it all ended well. :goodvibes

LOVE the parade pictures. And the Earl of Sandwich meal is making me drool.

Great report on Paris,Karin.

I am glad you like the photos, Kathy. Isn't it funny how we never make it to EoS in Orlando and head to the one in Paris several times? :rotfl2:

Hope you got to see the pics in the end, Jeanette! :goodvibes I still can't get over the fact that our summer trips overlap and we might get to see the pas-girls (and boys) :lmao:
I did!! :santa: I'm SO excited too Karin, I tolded DH we will be meeting another DIS friend, and he was happy, he's yet to meet a DISer he doesn't like :goodvibes

Day 6, August 16

Goodbye Key West! Hello Fort Lauderdale! - Part 1

When we woke up, our first thought was about the iguana. Was it still there? Sneaked outside and yes, it was.
After that we got ready and decided to try and hit Higg’s Beach in the morning for some more pics. After we had showered and packed away everything that had still been out, we started to haul down our suitcases and stowed everything in the car.
After all that work we sat out on the balcony one last time taking in all the beautiful scenery before checking for forgotten items and closing the door behind us. Again, we went to the Southernmost Beach Café for breakfast. When we arrived we were stunned.
The Café was full. There were no empty tables, but we thought about asking anyway. And when we approached the hostess stand we saw why they were so full. The wedding party from the day before was enjoying breakfast there as well. The hostess looked around and offered us a small table close to a wall towards the back of the Café and we were happy to have a seat in the first place. Our server was in charge of the wedding party as well, so she was really working hard, but she was friendly and fast to take our order.
I ordered

some orange juice and Tom had some coffee and we had quickly decided on our breakfast fare.

IMG_4834.jpg

The special quiche was, what had tickled Tom’s fancy. It was made with scallions, ham, provolone and asparagus and came with a side of breakfast potatoes and a fresh fruit bowl.
I was missing Key West already and took refuge by ordering something I can always eat,

IMG_4831.jpg

the Beach Café Benedict, poached eggs atop English muffin and sliced ham, topped with a light creamy hollandaise sauce. They too came with a side of breakfast potatoes and fruit and were delicious.
We both really enjoyed our breakfast but were fast to leave after we were done, because they needed more tables and because we wanted to see if we could get to Higgs Beach.
So we walked back, checked out and handed in the booking request for next year, then got into the car and off we went. Since there was a d-tour on the shortest route out of Key West, we headed towards the beach. Within a few minutes we had made it there and there were several free parking spaces, so we stopped. Several people were checking out the beach and the pier and we quickly made our way out onto the pier.

There were so many fish in the water, it was just amazing.

DSC_0264.jpg

We watched for quite some time and could even see our hotel in the distance.

DSC_0267.jpg

But the sun was very strong and we could feel our skin burning, so we made our way back to the car. Not even out of Key West we were already thirsty and dug for a bottle of water which we emptied right away, then got into the car and off we went.

IMG_4842.jpg

The drive takes you all around the island on one side, then you head towards the main land.

DSC_0273.jpg

We wanted to take a photo of the sign when you leave Key West, but I missed it and Tom was kind enough to turn around at the next stoplight, so we could get the sign driving into the town

DSC_0276.jpg

and leaving it again.

DSC_0277.jpg

And once we had the photos we got on our way towards Fort Lauderdale.

Day 6, August 16

Goodbye Key West! Hello Fort Lauderdale! - Part 2

And once we had the photos we got on our way towards Fort Lauderdale. The drive is pretty scenic, over lots of bridges and crystal clear waters.

Since you cannot drive to fast there is lots of opportunity to look around. Around midday we started to watch out for Marker 88, a restaurant I had read quite a lot about. We had said that we would at least have a look IF we found it. So when we passed marker 80 we started to look.
We made our way up to 88 and found it right away. You need to take a left turn when you drive towards the mainland and drive down to the beach to get to the restaurant.

IMG_4861.jpg

To say the beach looked awesome would have been an understatement.

IMG_4845.jpg

It looked wonderful. The restaurant looked inviting too,

IMG_4846.jpg

so we decided to stay and give it a try. When we walked up, the hostess asked where we wanted to sit, outside or inside. We considered dining inside for a split second, but since the beach looked so awesome, so we asked for a table outside. We were then led to a nice shady high table right at the waters edge.

The server told us that as guests of the restaurant we were free to use the beach. We hadnt planned on that and our swimsuits were buried somewhere in the trunk of the car, but it was something to keep in mind for a return visit. We both ordered a Diet Coke and it was served fast, while we were still studying the menu. When the server came back to take our order she already had refills on the tray. Shows that we were truly thirsty by then. I wanted something a bit more on the lighter side, so I ordered

IMG_4849.jpg

the Grilled Mahi Caesar salad, grilled Mahi Mahi over Caesar salad with Haiku tomatoes, roasted red peppers and Reggiano Croutons. I really liked how light and fresh it all tasted and I was very pleased with my decision. Tom had ordered

IMG_4850.jpg

the Key Lime Seafood Penne, lobster, shrimp and blue crab sautéed in a Key Lime Tabasco butter with tomatoes and scallions. It was a huge helping and shock full of seafood and he enjoyed it quite a lot. When we had both finished our main courses the server offered desserts and since I had read about their Key Lime Pie before I could not help myself and had to try it.

IMG_4852.jpg

IMG_4855.jpg

It was a HUGE piece of pie that she brought out and I was sure there was no way I could finish this. But this was the VERY best Key Lime Pie I had had all vacation. The crust was homemade and a little thicker, tart, creamy filling and meringue piled high. Heaven on a plate, so good. And after every lust crumb was picked up from the plate and the bill paid we walked out onto the pier that is part of the Marker 88 beach.

Thank you for the suggestion! I like having suggestions from people who have been there, rather than reading them in books or online.
