....what do we do?

UPS tried to deliver a package to my DDs place on Thursday and again on Friday. They were out of town. We assume it was DME, since I received mine on Thursday.

UPS left a note on DDs door on Friday to say they would deliver on Monday, and that the package will be returned to sender if not deliverable. DD and SIL will be at work. DD called Saturday to arrange alternate delivery but UPS was not open, so she went online to try there, but the alternate delivery option was not working.

What would she have to do if UPS sends the package back to DME? Can she check-in at the DME desk at Orlando without the bus tickets in hand? (She doesn't care about yellow tags and will claim her own luggage)

I expect we will soon be recieving the other package with booking info. If DD does not receive it, what then?

Thanks
GG

Very experienced with UPS :teeth:

She just has to be sure to call them before 7 PM Monday, to arrange to have the package held for five business days. Or, if she (or he) just keeps saying "agent" to the automated voice, they'll eventually get a person and may be able to arrange to have it redirected to one of them at work, or to you.

But yes, they can check in at the DME Welcome Center without vouchers or luggage tags - and no, they don't have to pick up their luggage. DME CMs will be able to locate it using their claim check numbers.

As an FYI, UPS does not actually return the documents to Disney. They call Disney and Disney requests that the items be destroyed instead. This has happened to us a couple of times (first time because UPS couldn't be bothered looking for our address, second time because our TA decided to use our old address). Our last cruise documents were sent with FedEx (though again our TA used an old address despite several updates ... guess who's not our TA anymore)

As mentioned, you don't actually need the documents so no need to be concerned. They're just something that is really nice to have :goodvibes

We have only ever received our Disney and DME paperwork via regular postal mail. We never received anything from Disney via UPS in over 20+ trips.

DME has always come USPS....I doubt they would use UPS, as well.....

Recently? I ask only because UPS changed their practice a couple of years ago - they just automatically return any shipment not delivered/with no contact on day three. To the best of my knowledge, they don't have the personnel available to contact each shipper to check on the desired disposition. But I can ask when I go to pick up packages this week :).

Thanks for this info, and all other responses.

What's USPS?

It's delivered by UPS to some? Ours was just by mail last year.

We live in Canada...maybe that is the difference?

Last time we went to WDW in 2008 we used a TA, all docs were sent there and we went to pick them up.

So that deals with DME, what if she does not receive the next package (not sure what is in it??)

USPS is the United States Postal System...regular mail. That's how we all get our DME packets.
I thought that DME wasn't going out to international addresses..is Canada not being considered at 'international' now???

Requesting that it be destroyed is in order not to pay more shipping charges to get it back. If UPS' SOP for short term simplicity's sake is to summarily send everything back then Disney still doesn't have to pay the return shipping charges and the item may or may not be destroyed after return to Orlando.

Whn you call to request a redelivery of the DME package, ask for the name and city of the person you talked to. If worse comes to worst this should be enough to get you on DME at all although most likely they won't ask for this down at the welcoming area.

We here at The DIS will be happy to fill you in on the DME details and instructions (ask about what you are unsure of) while you are waiting for a redelivery or if you are on such short notice that the redelivery will miss your happy departure for WDW.

I highly doubt that having the name of the person you spoke to, a month prior, is going to get you much of anything.
Best to just call DME and make sure you are in their system....as long as they can find you in the system you can head to DME and get checked in. You can either get your own bags, or give info to DME CMs at checkin to enable them to send someone for your checked bags.

Psst! It is still desirable to get a confirmation number or the name and city of the person you talked to as the best possible evidence the conversation took place. (For anything you order, book, reserve, or buy over the phone.)

When you call to request redelivery of the package, that will in itself ensure you are in the system as of that time.

Not if the delivery wasn't a DME packet. These packets are seldom sent out via any other way than postal system. If they are a 'rush' order, then yes, FedEx is usually the preferred method..not UPS.
So, if you call DME directly, you can find out if you are in the system. If you aren't, you can be added.

Again I say, having the name of the person you talked to isn't going to matter one way or the other. But yes, talking to that person will get you into the system.

1. What's USPS?

2. We live in Canada...maybe that is the difference?

1. Just to be clear, USPS is the US Postal Service, UPS is United Parcel Service the private package deliver system.

2. Probably, also UPS may work differently in Canada, in the US sometimes you can check a box and say just leave the package, sometimes not. Also they may not be able to hold the package and usually can't redirect it.

It was definitely sent by UPS.

The notice shows that a signature is required so they will not just leave the package in the mail box.

DD left a note on her door for UPS to deliver to a designated neighbour, or to leave it at the nearest UPS store which is only 1 block away from DD's home. Don't know why they just don't automatically do that anyway, just like the postal service would leave a package at the nearest post office for recipient to pick up :confused3

I forgot about dropping it at the neighbor's, but I'm pretty sure it can't be redirected to another address because UPS would have to print up a whole new address label with a new tracking number.

That's what I thought, too.

Why didn't she just call them? Leaving a note, in my experience with UPS, won't work; it has to be done *officially*. Which means signing on the form they left, or calling them...

I think what people are wondering is, since this is being sent by UPS, are you sure it's from Disney? (not "are you sure it's UPS")

Did you and your dd book two different WDW reservations?? And, did you book packages, or room only??

I can confirm that DME does send packets to Canada. Is is a semi-international location! I think there are too many Canadians going to DisneyWorld every year for them to stop sending out packets up here...

I can also attest that for the last few years, my DME packages came by UPS, not the regular mail. My friends who got them lately was by UPS as well. The hotel package do usually come with Canada Post/USPS, but lately that has been different probably because of our postal strike in June.

However, everytime the UPS guy just left my DME enveloppe in my mailbox, no signature required (the signature option cost something to add, so that's not surprising). When I have package with signature needed, UPS cheerfully dumps them on any willing neighbour (!), or I sign the back of the sticky to release their liability. (I really hate UPS!!!)

Are you sure it's DME documents??
